Hair? Finally?!

In 1968, the musical Hair opened on Broadway and ran for 1,750 performances. In 1969, it was nominated for a Tony for best music and best director, but lost to the musical 1776. There’s a certain irony in this.

1776 concerned events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence from Britain. Hair, fueled by the Vietnam War and the social revolution of the sixties, was about the dawning of the Age of Aquarius – i.e., a paradigm shift. On December 19, Jupiter joined Saturn in Aquarius and on the 21st, today, the two are exactly conjunct.

When the moon is in the seventh house
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind’s true liberation

Keep in mind that in 1968, the Civil Rights Act had been in effect for only four years and the Voting Rights Act had been passed just three years earlier. The military draft wouldn’t be abolished until January 1973.

In 1980, twelve years after Hair opened on Broadway, Marilyn Ferguson’s The Aquarian Conspiracy, also portended a paradigm shift. “We are changing because we must,” she wrote. “War is unthinkable in a society of autonomous people who have discovered the connectedness of all humanity, who are unafraid of alien ideas and alien cultures, who know that all revolutions begin within and you cannot impose your brand of enlightenment on anyone else.”

Things limped along for the next twenty years, two steps forward, one step back, and then 9-11 happened. We went into Iraq, then into Afghanistan, which has the dubious distinction of being the longest war ever. With the advent of greater technology and social media (Facebook, 2004) Smart Phones (2007) we became more connected to each other, with information at our fingertips 24/7. In 2008 our first black president was elected and it looked as if the shift might be happening. Eight years later, we had a female candidate for the presidency. But a reality TV star won.

Today the country is polarized, and it seems at times that we are living in two alternate realities that overlap. It’s not surprising that many of us feel that we are experiencing the complete opposite of the shift envisioned in Hair more than fifty years ago.

Yet, it’s now December 14. The Electoral College, an anachronism that should be abolished, has confirmed Biden and Harris are our next prez and VP. Thanks to the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius on December 21, the winter solstice, I believe  this conjunction signals the beginning of a paradigm shift.

In spite of the dire circumstances that exist in the world, millions of people on the planet are now experiencing an awakening and an opening of the heart. As a collective, we are becoming more heart-centered, more intuitive, more aware of the sea of signs and symbols that surround us – the heritage of Hair.

Some people refer to this shift as 5-D awareness, where we move beyond the mind’s tendency to complain and condemn, criticize and control and enter a heart-centered world. I think of it as the dawning of the Aquarian age. Finally. How this  shift unfolds is yet to be seen, the potential for a more egalitarian world now exists.

Predictions from the Old Moore’s Almanac

Theophilus Moore was a teacher extraordinaire in 18th century Ireland. He ran a classical academy at Milltown, a village near Dublin—which is now part of Dublin—where he taught Iris, English, Greek, and Latin. He was known as a clever mathematician and a wizard of astrology. He became known as ‘The Irish Merlin.’

He also published a magazine, which was initiated in 1764. And it’s still going. It’s called Old Moore’s Almanac and has been published continually for 256 years.

The almanac is famous for its predictions of future events, both in Ireland and the world. It has the highest circulation of any Irish magazine. Among its predictions was the pandemic. It was first included in the 2019 predictions—“There is a risk of a viral pandemic in the second half of the year.” For 2020, the almanac said: “An unusual virus has us worried. More and more people will work from home.

Among other 2020 predictions: Donald Trump will lose, “but he won’t go quietly.” Also, the Almanac predicted Joe Biden would be the Democratic nomination.

For 2021, the almanac foresees life slowing returning to normal by late summer,
we’re over the worst. Hugs, foreign travel, live music, and standing at the bar in your local – it’s all coming back in 2021.”

The almanac also predicts: “Trump becomes less relevant and spends the next few years desperately trying to avoid prison. Melania make a break for freedom.”

Also this: “Low vaccine uptake in Europe and the U.S. threatens the pandemic recovery effort. Anti-vaccine protests are countered by opposing sides demanding mandatory vaccination.”

Meanwhile, “Light at the end of the tunnel for long-Covid sufferers as researchers make new discoveries.”

Short of purchasing the almanac, you can find more predictions here.

Old Theo Moore must be happy that his journal with predictions is still being published and as popular as ever.

Trump and the Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

On Monday, December 14 at 11:17 AM ET, there will be a solar eclipse in Sagittarius. You can see the sun and moon there at 23 degrees, in the 4th house, outer circle. The arrow represents Sagittarius. Now look at the inner circle, trump’s natal chart, and you see  the moon and an upside horseshoe (South Node) at 20 and 21 degrees Sadge. This means the moon and south node closely conjunct the eclipse degree .

The 4th house represents home, family,  personal environment, your roots. Because the eclipse degree hits that south node – what’s familiar and most comfortable to trump – we can expect some more last ditch legal efforts to convince the electors to cast their vote for him.

The law is governed by the 9th house, where Uranus at 7 degrees Taurus- outer circle – is now transiting. It’s square – a friction aspect – to his natal Pluto @10 degrees Leo, his 12th house of the personal unconscious. At the same time, this solar eclipse is activating his Sadge moon – emotions, inner world –  and he, the sore loser, may explode. Again. You know, all those blistering tweets aimed at his enemies, both real and imagined. Those damning tweets that so terrified 100 plus members of the Republican party as well as 18 attorney generals into signing on to a bogus lawsuit presented to the supreme court by a nut bag in Texas. And oh! Bonus! Tex Cruz had offered to present the argument.

Cruz. Trump accused Cruz’s father of being involved in the assassination of JFK. Trump insulted Cruz’s wife. But hey, no problem. Cruz bows before his master.

And…surprise, trump! Uranus in the 9th house is what you didn’t expect: the supremos rejected that lawsuit. Even your court picks didn’t dissent. So you’re left with that  primal rage that has brought in several hundred million from your base.

Interestingly, Uranus forms a close quincunx – 150 degrees – to trump’s  natal Neptune in the 2nd. This could indicate sudden revelations about his deceptions with general finances.

With Mars at 20 degrees Aries in his 8th house (outer circle) opposed to Jupiter at 17 degrees Libra, 2nd house, the axis of personal income vs. shared income, the truth of his his financial picture expands.

It’s not a pretty picture.

Will he concede? Doubtful. Will he continue to lie about the election, the supposed fraud, and all the rest of it? Sure. It brings in money from his supporters.

The Big Failure

We’ve used this photo before. Not only is the Clorox meme appropriate, so is the #23. In the I Ching, the 23rd Hexagram is called Splitting Apart.

We tout the U.S. as the richest and most resourceful on the planet, yet here’s what failure looks like: today, December 9, there were more than 225,000 new Covid cases, more than 3,000 deaths, and we’re approaching 300,000 dead. We’re ahead of every other country. First in the world for the most terrible handling of the pandemic.

It’s the legacy of the this administration, the trump virus. Since the days when he said the virus would be gone by April to now- when the administration doesn’t even pretend anymore that it’s doing anything other than trying to overturn an election.

Move along now, trump, out of a White House so infected it needs to the cleansed with Clorox, to prison with the rest of your swamp, or to Russia or some other country that will take you in. Concede or not, who cares. Just leave. We’re exhausted by you and your lies, your 24/7 dramas, your bullying, your orange face and gross hair and constant attacks on people who disagree with you, sick and tired of your racism, misogyny, your twitter feed.

Leave and take your cronies with you so we can start to heal as as country. So we can begin to crawl out from under these horrifying virus case numbers and deaths. So we Americans can go through a day, just a single day, without seeing you or hearing you.

Leave.

The Devil’s Chair

It’s past Halloween now, but there’s always time for a spooky story at The Mystical Underground. That’s our daughter, Megan, sitting in the famed Devil’s Chair in the Cassadaga (Florida) cemetery. In case you’ve never heard of Cassadaga, it’s probably the most unusual small town in the state. It’s a Spiritualist community where many, if not most, of the residents are psychic/mediums who portend to talk to the dead.

Trish and I have been there many times over the years, usually staying at the 100-year-old Cassadaga Hotel, where we were once scared out of our wits in the middle of the night when we were the only occupants and the local bad ghost showed up at our door. But that’s another story.

This one is about the Devil’s Chair. The story goes that the brick chair in the cemetery had been built for an old man whose wife and daughter died in a fire and are buried there. Every day he would sit in the chair for hours facing their graves. Whether or not he communicated with his deceased family isn’t known, at least it’s not part of the legend.

When the old man died, people visiting the cemetery would occasionally get glimpses of an old man sitting in the chair, then he would vanish, and from there the legend grew and turned strange.

Supposedly, if you are foolish enough to sit on the chair at midnight and leave an unopened can of beer as an offering, the devil will talk to you. If you come back in the morning, you’ll see the devil…and the can of beer will be empty, but remain unopened.

I have the feeling that the legend might’ve been created by students attending Stetson College in nearby Deland. They were known for racing through Cassadaga on Halloween nights, shouting and throwing beers cans out the window. That went on for years until one Halloween an old wood-frame Victorian house burned to the ground. After that, for years, residents of spiritualist community would shut down the town on Halloween, but in more recent years the residents and shop owners have turned it into a spirited party night, and the hotel fills with visitors.

Somehow, Trish and I had never mentioned the Devil’s Chair to Megan, probably because we thought the beer can and the devil was a stupid legend. (After all, everyone knows the devil drinks Red Devils, Devil’s Cocktails or Devil’s Margaritas.) So recently Megan went to Cassadaga with three friends, who had never been there to get readings with our friend and favorite psychic/medium Kathy. One of the girls had researched Cassadaga and found the Devil’s Chair story so after getting readings they all went to the cemetery and had a seat. Well, three of them did. One girl refused to sit on the chair.

The synchronicity here…after Megan got home, she hurriedly cleaned up her living room because new couches were about to arrive, ones that she was buying on Offer Up. Not only did she get a good deal on the price for the couches, but the seller was going to deliver the furniture. Because of the delivery, the seller wanted a $50 deposit through PayPal or Cash App. And guess what? It was a scam. No couches arrived, the phone number and email were fake, and the ad vanished from Offer Up.

When I heard the story, I said, see what happens when sit in the Devil’s Chair? You met the ‘devil’ within a couple of hours! Interestingly, and another synchronicity, when Megan tried to send the $50, it wouldn’t go through either PayPal or Cash App. She couldn’t figure it out and was worried that someone else would get the couches. So she paid the $50 to a friend, who then was able to pay the scammer. In other words, she had a warning, but ignored it.

Maybe yet another synchronicity: I wrote a story a couple of years ago called The Devil’s Chair that appeared in a collection of our short stories called Outliers. And yes, it’s about that same chair and there’s a can of beer involved.

Another Epidemic

Doctors and nurses have been called heroes for their work in the battle agains COVID-19. But many of them don’t feel like heroes.Take Erin McIntosh, a nurse in Riverside, California: “I don’t particularly like that term—but we’re definitely not treated as such.”

While the covid epidemics has been attributed to the high-stress level, burnout and depression faced by nurses and doctors on the front-line, there’s something else going on in the health care world that is receiving much less attention.

It’s violence against health care employees, and it’s considered an under reported problem. You might be shocked, as I was, to learn that violent altercations are so common that most employees in the field consider them to be simply part of the job. Statistically, three quarters of thenearly 25,000 annual workplace assaults occur in healthcare settings, but only 30% of nurses and 26% of emergency department physicians reporting incidents of violence, according to one study.

I first learned about this issue when I was approached by the director of public safety at a regional hospital in a medium-sized city in Georgia. He called the problem an epidemic in health care and is developing a workplace violence prevention program and wants to write a book about it. He mentioned that with everything else going on in the health care field, this problem has been overlooked. He’s right about that. I searched on line for articles on the subject, but the only ones I found were a couple of health journal reports on the subject.

The synchronicity here is that I happen to know the security director of another regional hospital, this one in central Texas. Some of you who have read this blog for awhile might be familiar with the name, Wesley Meeks. I’ve written about his experiences over the years as someone capable of out-of-body travel—experiences ranging from a somewhat controversial out-of-body experience at a topless bar to his cosmic travels far beyond Earth and into other dimensions, including a visit to the Akashic records.

So I contacted Wes and asked for his opinion on violence to health care workers. Wes, who is a former police officer, quickly responded and agreed that it is an epidemic and that it’s a concern not only to him but to his wife, a nurse who works the third shift.

“Assaults against healthcare workers are very common and have been acknowledged as An ‘epidemic’ and a nationwide issue for the past couple of years,” Wes wrote. “Doctors, nurses, orderlies, patient care assistants, etc., bear the brunt of these incidents, but also hospital security officers and police officers are frequently assaulted as well.”

He thinks that part of the increase in such reports is because health care workers have become more willing to file police reports rather than to simply shrug off the incidents. That accounts for some of the increase, but not all of it, Wes said.

“This person wanting to write a book about the “epidemic” is correct in that this is a largely unacknowledged problem.  Even at our medium-sized facility, assaults and terroristic threats occur several times per month.   Since we have our own fully accredited police department, employees are more willing to file charges when assaulted than they were when they had to call the city police in years past.”

Wes went on to say that some “for profit” facilities may either discretely or openly discourage employees from filing charges against patients or family members. “But that trend is changing as well, again resulting in stats for assaults increasing.”

P.S. This was written originally back when the pandemic was ravaging New York and a few other places. Tragic and sad that it’s pertinent now, when the # of new cases exceed 200,000 and deaths are around 2500 a day. It’s pathetic that three states have more than a million cases and hospitals nationwide are reaching or have reached capacity.

Cohen & trump

Early on in the trump nightmare, Micheal Cohen reminded me of the Gottis. Any of them, take your pick. They’re a collective, an archetype. Years ago, I ghostwrote a book for one of them and spent a weekend at the Gotti estate on Long Island. We were followed by cops or feds the entire weekend. Followed to a grocery store, a restaurant. “Ah, not to worry,” the Gotti said.

This is business as usual. But hey, John Gotti is just a plumber. Really.

But, just to be clear, this was the 1990s, when the Gottis were constantly in the news for one thing or another, one travesty or another. They were persons of interest – not only to the feds, but to state officials, publishers, TV networks.

So when I first became aware of Michael Cohen, I thought he was Mafia. I thought he was just another Gotti. Then Cohen got charged and convicted and released and wrote his book and started his podcast. Now, during this pandemic, there’s a group of us at the dog park who talk politics and Cohen’s name and podcast are often mentioned.

The consensus is that we like his podcast. When a trump loyalist is fucked over as badly as Cohen was, when he loses everything – family, freedom, law license – and sees the proverbial light- the revelations are often really insightful. Cohen knows trump, understands his weird psyche, can anticipate his moves, decisions. He’s trump’s Bobby Fisher and trump has lost and, like some petulant child, can’t accept being a LOSER.

Forget the peaceful transfer of power. Trump is facing a zillion lawsuits once he’s no longer prez and all this publicity about his silly lawsuits have brought in over 170 million bucks for him. From his supporters. Most of whom are NOT in the upper percentage of Americans who have benefited from his tax cuts.  A big percentage of that $ can be legally used so that trump can live a lavish lifestyle and  still exert power in the republican party that refuses to admit Biden won.

Biden: 80 million he won, votes that scream, Help! We need to heal!

Regardless of what you feel about Cohen, he provides insights into trump – why he was elected, the conman and grifter that he is, and why he won’t disappear once Biden becomes the 46th president and Kamala Harris becomes the first female VP of color.

After all, 74 million Americans voted for trump. It’s still a mystery to me why.
