Recently, dem friends have reposted posts on Facebook by conservative individuals expressing their beliefs about the trump admin. Some of these posts, of course, mention religion, god, christians, and bless you all.
Frankly, I don’t understand how any Christian can support the cruelty and inhumanity this administration has demonstrated. Raids by masked ICE agents, a president calling opponents, critics and reporters “stupid, low I.Q,” blatant racism, misogyny. Trump is a convicted felon, pathological liar – with 30,000 documented lies during his first term – and appears to be descending deeper and deeper into dementia. Or Alzheimer’s. He exhibits some of the same symptoms my mother did.Where am I? What am I doing? Who am I?
One of these posts was about how this christian woman believes in “America first.” Even though she believes everyone should be able to love whoever they want, she points out that women should remain women and men should remain men, and god bless you all. It’s gag worthy. And oh, you people of color? You immigrants? Well, you’re welcome as long as you don’t commit crimes. Uh, okay, but the dude you support is a convicted felon. But for you, that was probably fake news
Here’s what she and others who share her beliefs are missing: democracy is founded on the premise that we are all created equal. Black, brown, white, yellow, green, gay or bi or straight: EQUAL. Male or female: EQUAL. The laws in this country are intended to apply equally to all regardless of color, sexuality, religious beliefs, political leanings. But the supremes made it legal for trump to not be held legally liable for anything he does as president. In other words, as trump said a decade ago, he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it – and now he can do it as long as the killing happens while he’s president.
Our first amendment right is simple:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
If & when trump and his minions overturn this right, then democracy dies. Then the US becomes a version of Russia, Hungary, Venezuela, & every other authoritarian regime that has ever existed. But trump’s move in that direction doesn’t seem to be quite as obvious as yanking broadcasting licenses. It will be done in a more subversive way, like interfering in the takeover of Warner Brothers by Paramount. Warner Brothers owns CNN.
In popular culture and the arts, this takeover began with trump seizing control of The Kennedy Center. Will it soon be called The Trump-Kennedy Center? Here in Palm Beach County where Mar a Lago is, the city commission recently voted to rename the four miles of Southern Blvd that leads to Mar a Lago, the President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.
I’ll never refer to it as anything but Southern Boulevard. Why honor trump with anything? Has he lowered the cost of eggs? Of living? Has he decreed universal healthcare? Lowered taxes for the middle class? Has he ended wars, as he claims, or done a damn thing to improve anything on the planet?
Nope, nope, nope, nope. Instead, he has done the one thing at which he excels: hurled the country and the government into chaos. And incidentally, eggs at our local Publix- whose owner is an avid trump supporter – now cost about 3 times what they did before trump’s second term began.
But hey, you supporters of trump and the cruelty he’s perpetrating: bless y’all & go read history about Hitler and his SS, so like ICE, and read about the Nazi concentration camps – so like Alligator Alcatraz, but without the gas chambers.
And when you are in a reflective, introspective state of mind, ask yourself: Have I slipped down the proverbial rabbit hole? Have I been brainwashed by this orange monster and hung out to dry?
Snap out of it, people. Trump is a convicted felon who pardons others like him – drug dealers, insurrectionists, pedophiles. He’s a fat criminal with an orange face, a foul mouth, and is completely clueless about democracy.
