I received an e-mail recently from Charles Fontaine, the Quebecois man who I wrote about here in the Quebec Encounters series here that later formed the heart of Aliens in the Backyard. Essentially, Charles has concluded that aliens are demons from the spirit world. His comments, which I’ve included in a slightly edited version below, compelled me (Rob) to consider the question of what lies at the root of the alien encounter experience, and about aliens, in general.
I think there is a connection between aliens and the spirit world. They seem to have access to it in ways we don’t comprehend. But I also think aliens are physical beings. Though some may have the ability to be both physical and non-physical.
I don’t know what aliens are or where they’re from, but I firmly believe they are not all the same—not physically, not mentally, and definitely not of the same intentions. They can’t all be lumped as either benevolent or evil. The same goes for humans, of course. And the same goes for human races and nationalities. Categorizing with specific attributes, whether positive or negative, only goes so far before such ideas start to unravel.
To say that all aliens are various forms of lower spirit beings – demons or Satan or fallen angels – then we are essentially saying there are no aliens. There are only lower, under-evolved demonic beings that appear as aliens.
It’s an interesting premise and the opposite of the ancient alien theme that implies all spirit beings and their revelations are cases of mistaken identity. It’s all aliens and no spirits. (I won’t even go into the skeptical/debunker perspective, which nullifies both possibilities!)
I think it’s much more complicated than either viewpoint – all aliens vs. all demons.
So here’s Charlie’s perspective. He makes references to people involved in his story, such as the pharmacist, the medium, and the ufologist (Jean Casault). Although I don’t agree with Charles, I think it’s worthwhile allowing him to express his thoughts and feelings, which are closely linked.

Remember what the medium told me when I’ve asked: Why me? He said they (the spirits) were telling him to tell me that I should give myself time and I would understand, because I’m well grounded to the earth.
They (aliens) were and are no good and here is how I’ve found out:
The third time that I met with the Pharmacist, I asked him: How did you find out that something related to aliens was going on with me and how could you point out exactly what was going on? How could you? He was amazed and confused for a moment and said: I thought that you had told me.
The same with the neighbors…. and the same with the medium with the dog’s left paw. All the strangers starting a discussion directly related to the subject.
Then there was the bang on the woodstove and the loud screaming coming out of the stove at 3:00 AM, and the black shadows.
Think of it this way: it is all the same, they want us to believe in different things such as, Bigfoot, Aliens, Vampires … you name them all… I believe they are all the same and Evil…SATAN
They possessed all the people coming to me. They used them to communicate with me. Tell me why the Pharmacist would not remember that he had asked the question directly?
They want us to believe they are good. Remember the medium had told me that they were good. But they talked through him to lie to me about their identity.
We (my wife and I) have lived through a horror movie. Why would they be connected with my visit to the graveyard?
Demons can make themselves appear in multiple images. They use people around their target to communicate. They probably took me to the book store so I would connect with you as well, because this is what they wanted.
I haven’t lost my senses. On the contrary, I realized as time went by that they are here to steal our souls.
Casault is wrong. He is saying that people such as me are cowards, and that we should not be afraid. The aliens are good. The problem is that Casault is saying openly that God does not exist. This is exactly the message that they – ALIENS (EVIL ONES) want us to tell throughout the community.
I think that he is feeling fear and this feels like a concrete “answer” to him.
Remember, he had no prior experiences and so “demons” would fit.
I feel so badly for him. I do believe that demons exist but DO NOT believe that was what visited him.
It can be very difficult to believe in aliens.
I also feel that this is not over for him.
Duality splits reality into light & dark, good and bad, but my current understanding is that the bad stuff is all the same universal energy ( god/source )expressing itself, in other words it’s just one universal energy expressing at a vibratory frequency though free will & choice. Recently just read that every event in our lives, every milestone is set in place before we come here BUT we have free will to choice what level of consciousness we chose to experience it thru. Thus our lives our predetermined soul choices but the level of consciousness we chose to bring to those events affects how we experience them.
I totally agree. That being the case, then in terms of mediumship, it truly is a case of like energy attracts like, then.
Maybe Charles has a point though : that those experiencing a lower vibrational consciousness can influence those around you. I have certainly had experience of that in my life, and my little son aged 8 can now tell when he senses a change in his energy field.
Hi guys! I recently read a book called “The Application of Impossible Things” by Natalie Sudman.
It blew my mind for days. Natalie essentially is writing about a NDE after she was blown up in The Middle East. She came across some beings that looked like monsters and alien beings, as well as human type beings whilst out of body. I have seen lots of different shapes , sizes and colours of beings whilst working, and I believe that the Universes’ inhabitants are diverse and they have diverse intentions. Recently a respected healer saw an alien type being hanging around my Hub’s energy field and I saw it years ago in his office late one night on a trip to the bathroom. They are able to shapeshift, as are all spirit people. Whether they are good intentioned or not is my biggest question….. and how do you tell?
I wrote to Natalie Sudman myself and asked her. She said she tells them apart by ‘feel’ when she works as a reader / medium.
This is an interesting topic, as I’ve recently made a similar comparison between aliens and malevolent beings (a.k.a. – demons) while reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It occurred to me that many of the vampire’s tactics (such as hypnotic suggestion / mind control, induced visions, physical paralysis, and blood-taking) are shared by extraterrestrial abductors. Maybe vampire lore has its roots in UFO abductions of the medieval era.
Interesting idea. Something I’ve never seen on Ancient Aliens, but right up their line!
Here’s a synchro. Just after I ready your vampire comment, I went to update a future post (for Saturday) which I’d written a couple of weeks ago, and read the following:
During the making of “Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance,” Nicholas Cage supposedly got so into character that he decided to spend a night in Transylvania’s infamous Bran Castle, aka, Dracula’s Castle. In the movie, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze (Cage) hides out in Eastern Europe where he is called upon to stop the devil, who is attempted to take human form.
Christianity is a very dualistic religion, with an “all good God” and an “all bad Devil” who are apparently always fighting it out with each other, and in the human mind, this is quite convenient, because it allows anything different or scary to be “the work of Satan”. This kind of thinking can lead to a lot of psychosis, personal and collective – it’s estimated that about 9 million people, mostly women and little girls, were brutally killed during the inquisition because they were “satanic”. I have a serious problem with that kind of thinking.
We are aware of other dimensions of consciousness. It seems to me that beings with a technology capable of navigating the stars are probably also able to navigate inter-dimensional space in some ways – and like you say, they are complex and diverse, apparently, in their motivations.
He sounds very stressed. Has he been at this same level of stress ever since the initial incidents, or has something happened recently to stress him? It could be either something anomalous or something conventionally stressful.
Also, did you write on the blog about the screaming coming from the stove and the black shadows? I couldn’t find reference to that and I don’t remember it. Is this a new piece of information?
Charles had put some distance between him and the experience, but recently he read about an abductee who attributed her experience to demons, rather than aliens, and that resonated with him.
I don’t think I included the sounds from the wood-burning stove. As I recall, I thought they might be of a natural source, and that writing about it might muddy the waters. But in retrospect, I probably should’ve included the stove sounds, shadows and related matters.
Oh, I see. Interesting. For some reason, he tolerated ambiguity for a long time, but now needs to feel certain. He used to be open to the possibility that the experiences might have a positive purpose and might even have something to do with his ancestors, but now he’s closing off those options.
The reason I asked about the woodstove phenomena, is that they did, indeed, sound more ambiguous. In his current state of mind, he’s sort of cherry-picking which things he focuses on in a way that supports this new certainty he wants.
I’ve heard Jehovah Witnesses saying that everything like this is down to Satan or the Devil – even Yoga is bad! But it’s surely much more complex than this. It’s the easy way out solution – blame it on Satan. Just like everything positive has been (in the past if not so much now) attributed to a God – the way the world was created and so on.
There’s a myriad of creatures on Earth so why not a myriad of creatures in the universe.
God or the devil: never anything in between!
