It either takes courage or naivete to run for U.S. congress after you’ve done TV interviews in which you claim to be a life-long alien abductee. That’s the case for Miami’s Bettina Rodriquez Alquilera, who is running for an open seat in the house of representative. Even though those interviews took place several years ago, it was inevitable that someone would remember and bring it up.
That’s how Alquilera’s campaign suddenly attracted a national audience in mid-October when the Miami Herald reported the story. In the original interviews, she said that she was taken aboard an alien ship by three blond, big-bodied beings, two females and one male, when she was seven years old. She went on to say that she has been in occasional contract with the aliens since that time.
Three blond, big-bodied beings — two females, one male — visited her when she was 7 years old and have communicated telepathically with her several times in her life, she says. The Republican candidate recounted her experience for a Miami television station in 2009.
Her description of the abduction probably won’t win her many voters among skeptics. She mentioned seeing round seats on the ship and the craft was controlled by “some quartz rocks.” She also said the alien beings reminded her of the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro – Christ the Redeemer with arms spread out. She also said the aliens told her that there was proof of alien existence in a cave in Malta where 30,000 non-human skulls are hidden.
When the Miami Herald asked her about her experience with the aliens on their ship, Alquilera was ready for them with what sounds like a prepared statement that skirted the issue of her involvement. Here’s what she said:
“For years people, including Presidents like Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter and astronauts, have publicly claimed to have seen unidentified flying objects and scientists like Stephen Hawking and institutions like the Vatican have stated that there are billions of galaxies in the universe and we are probably not alone,” she said. “I personally am a Christian and have a strong belief in God. I join the majority of Americans who believe that there must be intelligent life in the billions of planets and galaxies in the universe.”
We wish Bettina luck. Although she probably has now been labeled as a candidate outside of the mainstream, it seems that hasn’t stopped numerous candidates from being elected to Congress in recent years. But c’mon, why does she think Repugs will embrace her?
Rob and Trish, I understand totally about no time to create a second blog! Lauren, please accept my sincere apologies that my comments were offensive to you; that they made you angry, and that you felt you needed to defend our hosts on the Synchro blog. I am confident that the MacGregors know where I was coming from. They know me well, and I have no doubt they know that my heart is in the right place, especially in their regard. I will ALWAYS read their blog and will ALWAYS bring something positive into my life from it. Unfortunately, the current political climate in our country is overwhelmingly dark and negative. That, and that alone, was the source prompting the comments. Again, I deeply regret that they were offensive. It wasn’t intentional.
The Macgregors are artists and investigators and teachers, and they share their work and ideas, their reflections, concerns, and moments from their lives with true generosity. They create community out of that generosity. I don’t feel that politics is apart from spirituality, any more than I feel the body and art and relationships and being aware of the beauty, or endangered status of a bird losing its habitat, is apart from spirituality.
We are watching the fragmenting and deconstruction of America, where the Macgregors and I live, and the terrible destruction of the environment, where we all live and our children must live. This is something profoundly affecting their lives, and mine as well. It’s not spiritual to be concerned, to be active and engaged at this crucial time? If you aren’t interested in the subject, or a particular post, don’t read it, just come back for a later post, or explore other blogs that better suit your needs.

I applaud and admire Bettina’s forthright courage and honesty. Maybe she is an instrument of a slowly turning tide toward eventual full-blown revelations about abductions, etc, which are much needed. But……must we turn EVERY incident/event into a negative political comment of one kind or another?? There is so very much happening in our world today that has zero to do with politics….could we try to occasionally put our focus on these and leave the political arena to unfold as it is going to unfold regardless of our negative opinions and perceptions?? I’ve been visiting the MacGregor Synchro blog daily since its inception, and had become friends with Trish and Rob several years prior to the blog. It has always been inspiring, informative, uplifting, occasionally fun and funny with the flash dances and the animal stories, and very importantly, comforting when we lose someone we love. I’ve increasingly felt that the folks here are a kind of spiritually like-minded “family’ from all over the globe who have the freedom to express various and sundry ideas and philosophies with each other without fear of repercussions. It’s been a space of learning and growing for me, and it has been a delight.
Now, I wonder if perhaps the MacGregors might consider creating a SECOND blog devoted to politics? It would most certainly draw many, many visitors who share differing frames of mind in that regard and who want to debate them, and would provide a choice for viewers by separating the spiritually-oriented and the politically-oriented discussions? Just a suggestion, offered without rancor or dissension. A politically-oriented blog would be a refreshing, perfect space for folks seeking such a site for open discussions and conversations…….?????
