Michael Moore’s 11/9

Is there a synchro here? Well, maybe.

I can still recall when we went to see Fahrenheit 911, Michael Moore’s documentary on the Bush presidency, the biggest grossing documentary of all time – $222 million globally. At the end, I stood up and cheered. I remember that at the end of Sick-O about health care in this country, I also cheered. Now, I’m eager to see his take on the Trump presidency, a documentary that opens today, Fahrenheit 11/9.

When I first heard about the movie, the numbers struck me, 11/9 as the reverse of 911. I thought the 11/9 referred to the date of the 2016 election, which would be an intriguing numerical  synchro that connected to 9/11. But when I Googled it, the election in 2016 fell on the second Tuesday, 11/8, not quite the same thing. But Moore,  as adept as self-promotion as trump is, apparently selected 11/9 not only because of what the numbers are in reverse, but because it was the day after the election when we all understood that trump had won the electoral college and would be our next president.

In other words, what looks like a number synchronicity was manufactured. The synchro may actually lie deeper. Harvey and Bob Weinstein initially had control over the documentary and were blocking Moore from finding a theatrical distributor or broadcast outlet.

From Deadline Hollywood, in November 2017: “Sources said the brothers paid just north of $2 million out of the $6 million pledged in a docu deal Moore used to get the film to this point. That deal was made before TWC was hobbled by the testimonies of numerous women that painted Harvey Weinstein as a serial sexual predator. Sources describe the crux of the dispute this way: the Weinsteins want their money back, while Moore and his WME reps want them to step aside, chalking the loss up to the price of scandal.”

Read the whole article. The synchro may lie in the behind the scenes machinations, when Michael Eisner of Disney had stood in the way of the Fahrenheit 9/11 release and then the Weinsteins  stood in the way of the 11/9 release. As the article says, “To Moore’s camp, cutting a check to the disgraced mogul would be wrong, morally, and their feeling is that Weinstein is ironically positioned similarly to where Eisner stood years ago, when the former Disney chairman stood in the way of the Fahrenheit 9/11 release.”

I’m still drilling down on this one. Synchronicities often appear in the global spotlight and I’m sure there are some glaring ones here, but I suspect they won’t be obvious until I see the movie. Stay tuned…

In the meantime, the trailer for Fahrenheit 11/9 is pure Michael Moore.

PS. We saw the movie this evening. It’s the most disturbing movie I’ ve ever seen. And after seeing it, Moore picked the right title. At 2:16 a.m. on 11/9, trump became the winner. I remember: I was still awake, watching.

I was on the road last week and, and I’m just getting caught up here. Having read this post, and some of the comments here, all I can say is Wow. If you think Michael Moore is giving you a fair and balanced representation of reality, you might be beyond help.

Never before have I seen so much negative energy focused on one person, and that one person so mischaracterized as the source of the negative energy. How do you people sleep at night?

11.9 is my birthday, but in South Africa the date comes first, so 9.11 *grin*

I remember that day too. My friends and I had bought quality champagne to celebrate the first woman President of the United States. For us, Hillary Clinton, like Obama before her, represented true maturation of American democracy and social equality. I cannot even begin to describe our shock and sense of loss on 11/9. I am not hopeful – I am not sure that America can ever really recover from this corruption, division, and contempt for the system that has been the United States. Too many lines have been crossed, and yet Trump and his regime remain in power. He should have been impeached long ago, if we still had the America I once believed in. I will watch the movie, and no doubt cry as I did that night two years ago. I applaud Moore, as always, for his courage and voice.

But a question would be (as emailed) Y is “911” used as emergency code…kind of like maybe there is an emergency because of a lack of “Info”…. 911 be half way around the grand cycle as 411…. BUT Y… and what number does Europe use…..

    • Trish and Rob says:

Don’t understand this. Can you explain?

      • blah says:

A “lack of Information” (411) can lead to emergencies…. “411” is half way between “911” and “1911”…. sort of…No?…. just like my adult area code “408” and Stephen book “1408” half way between is what area code…. blah’s childhood area code…. half way between a “grand” (1,000) cycle…. but I’m just wondering WHY “911”… was chosen…. I hear Islam not real fond of it…..

This is from Nicholas Carrol, who commented on this post on Facebook:

Nicholas Carroll Trish MacGregor: Scariest movie I have ever seen in my life. Moore does not end the film on a hopeful note.

My favorite part were the Parkland kids. It was nice to see their activism and charisma on display.

“In other words, what looks like a number synchronicity was manufactured.”?!
I don’t see it as manufactured, as I watched the election coverage live in Australia where we are a day ahead and the date of the election from our perspective watching it live in Australia was 9/11, because that’s how we write November 9th over on this side of the planet.
    Your 11/9 is our 9/11 and vice-versa.
The irony stood out like a sore thumb over here I thought.

    • Trish and Rob says:

I meant manufactured in the sense that Moore could have chosen 11/8, the day of the election, but 11/9 – as the inverse of 911- made a more powerful statement. Good point, though, about Australia being a day ahead!

      • Darren B says:

I still think Moore is right with his title, because my recollection was that Trump wasn’t declared the winner until after midnight on election day, which would have made it 11/9 over there, if I’m not mistaken.
