Covid-19 and the Dark Side of Humanity

We recently read a fascinating article in the April 10 on-line edition of Psychology Today that relates the nefarious virus plaguing us with the dark side of the human sub-conscious. It was written by psychiatrist Dr. Bernard Beitman, who is the premier academic researcher focusing on synchronicity.

In it, he writes: “COVID-19 reflects the worst in our human psyche. Insidious and destructive, it promotes only its own survival and propagation. Its damaging effects on human society and human bodies are irrelevant to its purpose. These characteristics parallel the human effects on the natural world. Both the virus and humans are like parasites destroying their host.”

Powerful words. Noting the devastating threat that the virus poses as it runs through the population, Beitman says that a similar threat has been growing inside the human psyche. The destruction of our own habitat by the perceived need for economic growth has set humanity on a suicide course. Lurking in our sub-conscious is the perceived need to dominate nature and unless we deal with it quickly we will be facing the eradication of humanity. You can read the entire article here.

Trish and I have been a guest a couple of times on Bernie’s podcast, Connecting with Coincidence, and he will be a guest on The Mystical Underground, this Sunday. We’re really looking forward to that interview.

Interestingly, when I typed ‘psychiatrist’ above, the word program did an auto correct changing it psychiatrist to ‘psychic artist’. I kind of like that.

As the Covid-19 Virus keeps people at home the earth is trying to heal itself . If the sky is clearer, the temperature lower over land it is because humanity is stressing it less than during normal conditions.

I’ll look forward to the podcast! “psychic artist”……hmm, funny syncro.
I have to say, another way of looking at a global epidemic may be that it is an effort on the part of Gaia, a self-regulating planet, to come into balance. Kind of like white blood cells attacking an infection. Sorry to be grim, but we are the ones not cooperating with planetary balance.

    • Trish and Rob says:

Lots of metaphors with this. Trump is the virus in democracy. The actual virus is what you said – Gaia’s way to regulate. Florida opens Monday despite the fact that we now have 40,000 cases

I ‘m more of a centrist when it comes to politics (although I tend to favour the Left more than the Right slightly), so I’m no fan of either the Democrats or Republicans, but I’m certainly no fan of that lunatic Trump.
I see in the Australian national news this morning this story, and I would have to agree with the ex-POTUS –

Obama calls Trump Administration’s coronavirus response a ‘chaotic disaster’

One thing I find odd about your candidates is that they are so bloody old and basically have one foot in the grave.
Whoever the vice-president is when they get in must be getting ready for a free ride into the White House as a default POTUS I would imagine.

        • Trish and Rob says:

No kidding about their age. One is mentally ill and the other is all we’ve got. I would love to see Biden choose a younger progressive woman.

I’ll be looking forward to hearing that talk with Dr. Beitman, as I just listened to his latest podcast talk with a hypnotist, just minutes ago.
To be honest I don’t like the format his show takes of constant interruptions for annoying ad breaks (I just skip over them anyway) and rushing the guests to make their points before the ad breaks, or the show ends completely.
I’d much rather hear Bernie doing a podcast in a similar format to the one you guys do, as his current format reminds me of those comedy skits where the dying person is just about to reveal something important, and just as they are about to utter the thing you have been waiting to hear, they expire before doing so.
Reminds me of another silly format/podcast called ’42 minutes’, where the guests only have 42 minutes of live time to tell their story, or get their main points across before being cut off completely by the host saying “sorry that’s 42 Minutes.”

    • Trish and Rob says:

Rob and I were on 42 minutes for one of our books, can’t recall which one. And I remember that 42 minute thing irritated me. It was so well, here we are, 42 minutes. Adios. We’ve got a lot of questions for Bernie. Jon kokes that Bernie about to become the mystical underground shrink. Hope you’re well, Daz!

      • Darren B says:

Yeah, they do that too much on ’42 Minutes’, unless it’s one of their mates they really want to talk on further with, for whom they then break that rule and carry on for an hour or more.
The show seems to be dead now anyway, although there are some good guests in archived shows at their site.
Australia has nearly beaten the Covid 19 virus (this time round at least) and restrictions are easing over here.
The cinemas are still closed, but I went to the drive-in with my adult son for old times sake and saw ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ last night.
I wrote a post with heaps of pictures of my drive-in visit, plus a super full moon photo here –

        • Trish and Rob says:

Wow, a drive-in, how cool! Most of ours are history. Glad to know Australia is on the mend. In the U.S., this has been totally messed up. Since states are opening up, there’s probably going to be a second wave or just a continually rising wave of infections and deaths.

    Great picture.
