It ‘s here! The inauguration of Biden/Harris and the end of the disastrous four years of the the trump sham!
Yes, the capitol is an armed fortress with some 25,000 National Guard troops who have been sleeping on the floors of Congress.
Yes, tensions are ratcheted upward in very capitol in the country. One of the many pundits referred to this time as a new Civil War. Maybe it is. But what matters is that trump is gone. Biden wasn’t my choice – Bernie was. But early on, Bernie saw what was happening and endorsed Biden.
He may not be the most exciting choice. But honestly, it will be wonderful to listen to a president who isn’t lying every 5 seconds or firing someone or denigrating his critics on Twitter. It will be near bliss to know we have a woman VP, a cabinet that is efficient but not particularly progressive.
The progressiveness, I think, will grow because people will demand it. Humanity already cries out for it. Orange man was the manifestation of our dark side, that part of our collective psyche that we prefer to keep hidden. Thanks to him – and it’s the only worthwhile thing he did – our hatreds and prejudices are now fully exposed.
How do we heal this?
In the wake of January 6th and trump’s 2nd impeachment coming up, his republican enablers are objecting to a trial in the senate because we “must unite and unify.” Sure. like you guys have done for the last four years.
The real surprise in this sordid picture is Mitch McConnell. No one person should have the power he does. When the house passes a bill, the senate should be obligated to hear it. But since we don’t live in that universe yet, watch Mitch. He has said he may vote for impeachment, but refused to start a trial until next week, when the senate returns from break.
But okay. January 20. Inauguration Day. Good-bye trump and his swamp. Welcome Biden, Harris, and your accomplished team. Welcome democracy!
The countdown by the hour is on!
I cannot express my relief in watching the Inauguration, and how moved I was by Biden’s speech and call to an end to the insanity and division of the past 4 years, and the beautiful poem by the young poet as a continuation of that theme. I remember well the Women’s March, which I participated in, when Trump became president in 2017, and I remember well the second Women’s March as well. For a while it felt like we were a country locked down into repression and fascism and corruption, irretrievable. I found hope again in watching yesterday.
And much good has happened very quickly! Many of trumps orcs resigned or asked to leave, rejoining the Paris Accord. mandatory mask mandate in all federal buildings and hope that the vaccine will soon become available as it should have been…………even here in Arizona, the Yaqui and Tohono O’Dem are asking that the stupid “Great Wall of Trump” stop being built and destroying their lands. Let us all raise a glass to better times, sane times.
Sam here. It was emotional seeing them both giving the oath of office.
I just finished watching the inauguration on my DVR, since I was at work yesterday when the event was happening, and wow! – what a refreshing experience! Once again we have leadership in our country: qualified elected officials with respect for the office they hold and the citizens of the nation they serve! It truly feels like a the darkness has evaporated, and a tremendously oppressive weight lifted from our shoulders. We can breathe freely again, and America’s dignity will be restored in the eyes of the world! What a great day to be an American! 🙂
We watched too! I though it was wonderful and I immediately felt lighter!
Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner. I jut found it in trash – I need to figure out why that happens!
Congratulations to you all who voted!
