This beauty hangs out on the property where our vet’s office is. Today, he was just perched on the fence where I was parked, waiting for someone to come out and get our cat, Beowulf, for his checkup. Due to Covid, humans wait in their cars and a technician comes out to get your buddy.
The peacock started making its raucous call and Beo heard it and tried to peer out of his cage to see it. I got out of my car and took this photo. One other time, back in February, I spotted this guy.
Peacocks are harbingers of rain – and it poured after I left the vet’s place.
According to this site, in Native American symbolism, “peacock meaning is wellness, splendor, and poise. Peacock medicines are powerful and sometimes used by Shamans for awakening clairvoyant abilities.
Little known fact: peacocks can also fly when properly motivated! There was a stray one that frequented our area back in the early 1990’s, and our dachshund escaped out the door and went after it hell-bent-for-leather. The peacock took off like the roadrunner in the cartoons, honking in panic, and as the dog closed the gap, the bird flapped its wings and took off in a near-vertical ascent – alighting on a tree branch 40 feet up in the air, where it perched squawking with alarm! My Mom incredulously insisted that peacocks couldn’t fly, but our doxie proved otherwise! That scenario was repeated numerous times over the years, to our great amusement! 😀
Would love to see one of them fly!
