#137 – again and again.

We’ve written about this number before – in fact, quite a few times. When I put the number into our blog’s search window, nine posts came up. So this one will be the 10th about #137.

Wolfgang Pauli, a physicist and Nobel laureate, was an early supporter of Jung’s theory on synchronicity and investigated the phenomenon as well. He had a rather striking experience with a set of numbers. Pauli was confounded by one of the unsolved mysteries of modern physics, the value of the fine structure constant, which involves the number 137.

A prime number can be divided by 1 and by itself. Or, put another way, a prime number is a positive integer that cannot equal the product of two smaller integers. That makes 137 a prime number and a particularly baffling one. In Deciphering the Cosmic Number: the Strange Friendship of Wolfgang Pauli and Carl Jung, Arthur I. Miller refers to 137 as the “DNA of light.” He provides a brief, but fascinating history about the number 137 in the world of quantum physics.

It was ‘discovered’ in 1915 by Arnold Sommerfield, who was Pauli’s mentor when he was still a student. “From the moment 137 first popped up in his equations, he and other physicists…quickly realized that this unique ‘fingerprint’ was the sum of certain fundamental constants of nature, specific quantities believed to be invariable throughout the universe, quantities central to relativity and quantum theory.”

The number became so baffling to physicists that the great Richard Feynman, who won the Nobel Prize in 1965 for his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics, said that physicists should put a sign in their offices to remind themselves of how much they don’t know. The sign would be simple: 137.

For Pauli, the number followed him to his death. At the age of 58, he entered the hospital for routine surgery. When he discovered he would be in room #137, he told his assistant that he wouldn’t get out alive. Ad he didn’t. He died shortly after surgery.

So, the synchronicity this time around. We’re working with a man on his novel, which involves synchronicity and a past life mystery that has bled into the current life for a group of people. The antagonist is haunted by the #137, the number on the house where he lived nearly a century ago. In his current life, this number recurs often and connects him to memories from that past life. Yesterday, the client sent us a copy of his airline ticket for a trip he’s taking. The flight number?

137.

    Amazing stories. Thank you!

I had a synchro today. For the first time in many months I decided to do a little morning ritual I used to do for “Spider Woman”, the Native American Great Weaver. I make offerings in a circle to the Directions, and also to the Center which is the Great Web, that which unifies all. I reflected rather sadly that, although I have done so many projects and artworks focused on the Spider Woman myths, it all seems a long time ago and I feel rather out of touch with spirituality and a sense of purpose these days.

I run an AIRBNB, and later I went into an empty room to clean up after a guest who had left. She had left a poem on a billboard in the room, one of those poems that come from a “take a poem” pile here in Tucson. It concerned the underlying unity and mutability of all things…………… here are the closing lines:

“You can see circling about with a crazy velocity
as if the grain of (any) rock were reassembling
    for some unforeseeable purpose
red specks that are the tiniest
    spiders,
    if you look real close.”

Wow, Lauren. It was speaking directly to you!

Funny, I just listed to the latest ‘The Unexplained’ podcast which featured a Catholic priest named Father Nathan Castle from Tucson and I was thinking there’s an American town that I don’t hear a lot about and now here’s Lauren commenting from Tucson

I’m not a Catholic or even a follower of any religion, but I do find this guy’s dreams interesting … even though I believe in reincarnation, which I doubt Father Nathan would … at least not officially in this current lifetime of his
Ironically The Unexplained podcast episode featuring Father Nathan is titled Father Nathan Castle RETURNS

I see that Bernie Beitman’s latest Connecting with Coincidence podcast episode features a filmmaker who lives in Tucson named Christine Clawley talking about her new film ‘Tapestry of Time’ which she is currently working on.

She was on our podcast back awhile ago. We met her when she came to our place to
Film footage for a synchronicity movie. She’s terrific.

  2. 137 Queens Avenue Singapore was the place we lived for 10 years and we loved every moment. It was the place where I begin my PhD on synchronicity. I was led to the house via synchronicity which I record in my upcoming book the 9Keys of synchronicity.

“Let me tell you the story of how I found my dream house in Singapore, and it was all guided by synchronicity and acting on intuition. At the time we lived in a relatively small apartment—nicely appointed but small. One day I was driving to the supermarket and a little voice inside of me said ‘turn left’. I turned left and found myself in an area of beautiful old colonial black-and-white houses. I looked at them and my wife and I determined that one day we would live in such a house. It was as if someone wanted me to experience what it would be like to live in a black-and- white compound. Just to explain, a black-and-white house in Singapore is an old colonial house built by the British with beautiful high ceilings and gardens big enough for a swimming pool. We proceeded to the supermarket and there on the things- for-sale noticeboard was a black-and-white house, but the rental price was far too expensive. I don’t know why, but I said to my wife that if ever we did move into a black-and- white, I would only pay $5,500 rent per month, the figure just came out of my mouth without me thinking about it. We thought nothing about it, did our shopping and went back home.
At 11.30 am that same day, I decided to visit the Funan centre, our local computer mall, where I bumped into my old boss. He had a new colleague with him who had just joined his company and he was showing him around the mall. We had lunch together and as we were talking, I mentioned that I was on the lookout for an old black-and- white house. My old boss told me that his wife’s friend had come to see them at the weekend and one of the things she wanted to do was to see the house in Singapore where she had lived during the war, so they took her to see it. It was a black-and-white in Queens Avenue, Sembawang. He told me that it looked empty so was probably for rent. I knew that I was on the trail of synchronicity and intuitively I knew that I had to respond immediately. I left my lunch half-eaten, went home and told my wife that we had to go to Queens Avenue straight away.
We drove to Queens Avenue and found a beautiful old house on 26,000 square feet of land with a second house at the back of the property that would be ideal as an office. This was exactly what I was looking for and it was empty and available. I called the government housing department and was told that if I made an offer then I could have the house. They said that the minimum offer was $5,500. I made an offer of $5,500 and by 4.30 pm the house was ours.”

So its not surprising Trish that the house number was 137.
