SOLAR ECLIPSE JULY 2

The July 2, 2019 solar eclipse is in Cancer at 10 degrees and 37 minutes. These eclipses are like double new moons, and that means double the new opportunities and experiences. Solar eclipses involve outer events, lunar eclipses impact our inner lives, emotions and intuition.

This eclipse is total, but its path across the planet is narrow. Totality will be visible from the southern Pacific Ocean east of New Zealand to the Coquimbo region in Chile and Argentina. Quite often, the path of totality experiences something significant on or around the day of the eclipse. Keep an eye on the news.

There’s a lot of like about this one, which should be positive for all signs. Uranus at 5 degrees Taurus forms a wide, beneficial angle to the eclipse, a sextile, suggesting pleasant surprises that seem to come out of nowhere. The kind of surprise depends on the area of your natal chart where the eclipse occurs and where Uranus falls.

Neptune in Pisces at 18 degrees and 41 minutes forms a wide, but strong trine to the eclipse degree. This suggests that both spiritual and highly creative elements come into play.

Cancer, a cardinal water sign, is the sign of home and family and since this falls so close to the July 4 holiday, your barbecuing and fireworks may start early! The other three cardinal signs – Aries, Libra, and Capricorn – will also be impacted significantly by this eclipse.

Two weeks later, on July 16, there will be a lunar eclipse in Capricorn. We’ll post on that one around July 15.

In the meantime, the July forecasts are uploaded in the blog masthead and includes information specific to each sign about the impact of this eclipse for you. Happy July!

Global Synchronicities

Here’s the global synchronicity that defines  this administration’s inhumane and blatantly cruel immigration policies:

Through mass events and the synchronicities so often associated with them, the universe speaks to us as a collective – as a people, a community, a nation, as citizens of the same planet. These types of synchronicities certainly illustrate connections to a deeper layer of existence, similar to what quantum physicists speak of when they refer to everything in the universe being intimately connected. As Michael Talbot put it in The Holographic Universe, “Our brains mathematically construct an objective reality by interpreting frequencies that are ultimately projected from a deeper order of existence that is beyond space and time – the brain is a hologram enfolded in a holographic universe.”

A commenter on Facebook recently took issue with a post entitled, Eagles Down!
about the death of a number of eagles, symbol of America. The birds are dying indirectly from bullets that killed other wildlife. To us, the death of large numbers of this protected species that represents America speaks of both of the gun issue and the overall state of American democracy. The FB commenter said:

Gun control? & Because a Liberal is not the President a reflection of our Democracy.? ..wow..not even connected at all…I thought it was the poisoning in the article mentioned below.. Opinions are not Universal Apply to all synchro.s … well personally to you obviously. So yes according to the 1st Shaman Principle. The world is what you think it is. The sky is falling!.. a synchro to Chicken Little.. turns out: just rain.

In an administration largely defined by lies, corruption, violations of the foreign emolument clause, a flagrant disregard for the law, possible obstruction, and an inhumane and cruel immigration policy, the deaths of so many eagles is an obvious global synchronicity.

Eagles Down!

It’s not a good sign to see all those dead eagles in the pic above. Eagles, of course, are the symbol of America and they are dying indirectly from bullets that killed other wildlife.

It’s illegal to shoot bald eagles, but that hasn’t stopped a large scale die-off related to eagles ingesting lead pellets from other animals shot by hunters. You can read about it here and here.

“Raptors are quite willing to be scavengers, so they scavenge,” says Lynn Tompkins, director of the Blue Mountain Rehabilitation and Education Center in Oregon. “They eat things that have been shot. Lead ammunition is the biggest source.”

The Raptor Center in Minnesota receive 120-130 sick or wounded eagles a year and 90% of these eagles have elevated lead in their blood.

It’s not the kind of synchronicity that we like writing about. But, to us, the death of large numbers of this protected species that represents America speaks of both of the gun issue and the overall state of American democracy.

The Outliers

Available now in paperback, $12.99; Kindle, $4.99

An outlier is something or someone that lies outside of the main group that it’s a part of. In this collection of short stories, the outliers are people who don’t fit into our consensus reality. They’re anomalies, weirdos, individuals whose experiences are vastly different from the rest of us. And yet, they are us in their humanity, their emotions, and in their curiosity that asks, What if?

The stories begin with a novella in which a paranormal investigator looks into a bizarre story about a secret federal law enforcement team that pursues their cases while out-of-body. It ends with the story of a First Lady who hold seances in the White House.

Synchronicity at Jung’s Home

In the summer of 1975, I had saved enough money in my job as a social worker to travel to Europe. I went with another social worker, Chris, who had just lost her husband in a private plane crash. Our itinerary was loose, flexible, but we had certain countries we wanted to see.

One of those countries was Switzerland. In those days, there were no cell phones, no Internet, no personal computers, no social media. Everything had to be arranged through a travel agent in terms of flights, then I bought books on traveling in Europe to educate myself. My main interest in Switzerland was Bollingen, where Jung had built his now famous castle on the shores of Lake Zurich.

It wasn’t a castle in a Medieval sense or even in terms of Games of Thrones. From what I’d read, he had built it from stone, without electricity or running water, and it had four distinct towers that represented the solidity of the psyche. He bought the land in 1922, after his mother’s death, and a year later built a two-story, round tower, a stone structure that could be lived in. Additions to the tower, according to Wikipedia, were constructed in 1927, 1931, and 1935, and resulted in a building that has four connected parts.

After the death of Jung’s wife in 1955, a second story was added to the 1927 addition. To Jung, it meant,”an extension of consciousness achieved in old age.”

This was the place that I saw in 1975.

My friend Chris and I stayed in Zurich for a night, then set out the next day to take a train to Bollingen. I remember the Swiss train system as complex, especially when you didn’t speak German or French, and there weren’t any signs in English. Maybe there are today, but back then, no. We missed our train.

We caught the next one and arrived in Bollingen, I think, in the early afternoon. Chris didn’t understand why we were taking this detour, she wasn’t familiar with Jung. But I credit her for being willing to explore.

The town wasn’t large, but I didn’t have any idea where Jung’s castle might be, so I asked and got directions. Turns out the locals knew. The memory of coming upon the castle in those first few moments is shockingly clear. I kept thinking that I was here because of the I Ching – specifically Jung’s introduction to the Richard Wilhelm edition, where he introduced his concept of synchronicity. The I Ching is a Chinese divination system that is at least 5,000 years and since my discovery of it – with the Jung intro- I’d been practicing with it.

I recall how strikingly simple and beautiful the castle looked, there on the shores of Lake Zurich, beneath a beautiful blue sky, and then I noticed that within a fenced backyard, a young man was with a dog. I walked up to the fence, introduced myself. The young man turned out to be Jung’s grandson. If we had caught the first train out of Zurich that morning, he would not have been in that backyard. A synchro, I think, in terms of timing.

We talked for maybe 30 minutes – about the castle, how after Jung’s death, electricity and running water had been added – about Jung and his friendship with Wilhelm, and about synchronicity. Chris, I recall, hung back during this exchange. But she later asked what the hell we had talked about. I didn’t even know where to begin. With synchronicity? She considered coincidences to be completely random. With the I Ching? She thought divination was silly. You can see where this is going, right? By the time we got to Scotland, she and I were no longer speaking to each other.

But one evening we sat on a hill that overlooked Edinburgh and she said that today marked a year since her husband’s death. She wished he would reach out and try to communicate with her. I said nothing. I have no idea where Chris is now, but I hope she has discovered the reality of synchronicity.

Missouri & The Handmaid’s Tale

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhQLk0geoCA

I’ve often wondered if Margaret Atwood, when she wrote The Handmaid’s Tale in 1985, was tuning in on the future. We haven’t quite arrived at the point where all fertile women serve at the will of powerful men and must wear the red handmaid’s garb, but Missouri is now one step closer to that Dystopian vision.

Three weeks ago, that state’s health director – a white man – told Planned Parenthood that in order to renew their license in the state, all women seeking abortions had to be subjected to a state-mandated internal exam three days before the procedure. This unnecessary exam is a punitive measure to discourage women from having abortions. Physicians at the last clinic in Missouri that performs abortions said they would comply in order to keep the clinic open.

Tonight, Dr. David Eisenberg, the clinic’s medical director, said,“We no longer need to do this unnecessary and medically unethical, invasive, uncomfortable pelvic exam as part of informed consent. We are choosing to provide the best quality, patient-centered care that we’ve always provided at Planned Parenthood. That includes doing things that are driven by science, by evidence and by what’s medically appropriate.” To continue this medically unnecessary exam, Eisenberg said,
“Is just assault.”

In other words, the clinic is defying the state-mandated law.

Missouri, by the way, makes no except for rape or incest. So whether a woman is raped by her father or a stranger, she must, by state law, carry that baby to term.

Roe v Wade has been federal law since December 1973. That was 46 years ago and so-called pro-life advocates have been trying to overturn it ever since. These are the same people who claim that every human life is precious, yet when a child is born, well, sorry, you’re on your own. No universal health care for you, no child care unless your parents have money, and frankly, we’d like to make all education private because having the public pay for it is, you know, SOCIALISM.

But the central issue with abortion is that the woman is the one who gets pregnant, it’s her body, and it should be her choice whether she carries the baby to term. No one mandates the way a man uses his body, but if Roe v Wade is overturned, then there should be laws that do so.

Daily, we creep closer and closer to what Atwood envisioned in the Republic of Gilead, a Dystopian world where women are completely subjected to the will of men. I realize there are plenty of women who support trump and the republican agenda that makes such extreme laws possible. Many of you are mothers with daughters who, at some point in the future, may experience an unwanted pregnancy – through rape, carelessness, or within an abusive relationship. Some of these daughters may be young or impoverished or hampered in some way. Why shouldn’t they have the choice of terminating a pregnancy? Why bring a child into conditions like this?

Some months back, when immigrant children were being rounded up and put in detention camps by the trump administration, I argued with a republican neighbor about this. And he said, “Trish, if your daughter was killed by an drunk illegal immigrant driving a car, how would you feel?”

My response? It was more likely that the driver would be a white guy who’d had one too many at the local bar. My response should have been, “How would you feel if a gunman walked into your daughter’s high school and opened fire?”

It’s all part of the same maniacal, divisive  culture in which we find ourselves at this particular juncture in the second decade of the 21st century.

Dystopian Visions of the Sleeping Prophet

Edgar Cayce made numerous predictions about the earth changes that we now see beginning to unfold. The sleeping prophet, as was known for conducting his readings while lying on a couch in a sleep-like state, was both right and wrong on the earth changes. He was wrong about the timing. He said these changes would be coming in the later half of the 20th century.  Now with global warming making bigger and bigger impacts on the world, it seems Cayce was on the right track, but the earth change ‘train’ was delayed.

Here’s one of his readings on the subject. We can be glad we missed out on this one…at least for the time being.

“As to the changes physical again: The earth will be broken up in the western portion of America. The greater portion of Japan must go into the sea. The upper portion of Europe will be changed as in the twinkling of an eye. Land will appear off the east coast of America. There will be the upheavals in the Arctic and in the Antarctic that will make for the eruption of volcanoes in the torrid areas, and there will be the shifting then of the poles–so that where there has been those of a frigid or the semi-tropical will become the more tropical, and moss and fern will grow. And these will begin in those periods in ’58 to ’98, when these will be proclaimed as the periods when His light will be seen again in the clouds. As to times, as to seasons, as to places, ALONE is it given to those who have named the Name–and who bear the mark of those of His calling and His election in their bodies. To them it shall be given.”

So far we’ve avoided most of that, but who knows what’s coming.  It could be that a prophetic dream Cayce had in 1936, nine years before his death, provides a glimpse of what life may be like at the end of this century. The dream is right in line with many of the predictions Cayce made about earth changes, and it supposedly foretells Cayce’s next life.

“I had been born again in 2100 A.D. in Nebraska. The sea apparently covered all of the western part of the country, as the city where I lived was on the coast. The family name was a strange one. At an early age as a child I declared myself to be Edgar Cayce who had lived 200 years before. Scientists, men with long beards, little hair, and thick glasses, were called in to observe me. They decided to visit the places where I said I had been born, lived, and worked in Kentucky, Alabama, New York, Michigan, and Virginia.

“Taking me with them the group of scientists visited these places in a long, cigar-shaped metal flying ship which moved at a high speed. Water covered part of Alabama. Norfolk, Virginia, had become an immense seaport. New York had been destroyed either by war or an immense earthquake and was being rebuilt. Industries were scattered over the countryside. Most of the houses were built of glass. Many records of my work as Edgar Cayce were discovered and collected. The group returned to Nebraska, taking the records with them to study…”

Dreams are these are probably part of the reason that so many novel and movies feature dystopian themes.

FULL MOON

June’s full moon is in fire sign Sagittarius. See it there in the 7th house? The planet next to it, at 18 degrees of Sagittarius, is Jupiter, the planet of luck, expansion, the big picture.

The moon rules our inner, emotional lives, intuition, mom or the nurturing parent, and the full moon is about the harvest. About completion. Since it’s in Sagittarius, we should have a better grasp of the bigger picture of whatever we’re dealing with right now. Jupiter rules Sagittarius, so whatever events transpire for you on or around this full moon, expansion is the main theme.

Check your sign’s forecast for this month, in the masthead, and find out what this full moon may bring about for you.

America’s Giants Still Roaming

A ‘Giant’s Femur’ – believe it or not!

Like ancient Greece, America has its own mythical past. But instead of gods residing on the likes of Mount Olympus, the New World has pale-skinned giants—some ranging up to 12-feet tall—who roamed about ancient America, and were supposedly associated with the mysterious Mound Builder Culture. These giants don’t have names or renowned powers like the Greek gods, but they have a way of coming back to life over and over. While the Greek gods were cultural heroes, the legendary giants of America were the product of speculative science and today—thanks to tabloid reality—remain the patron saints of fake news.

In 1894, ethnologist Cyrus Thomas seemingly slayed the giants of America en masse with his report that concluded that the ancient mounds were created by native Americans, not any lost white culture of giants. The theory of these ancient giants actually held sway in the early decades of the 19th century with the U.S. government, whose officials openly advocated the existence of a lost white race of Mound Builders, sometimes called Welsh Indians or “paleo-Hebrews.”

Even the Smithsonian got into the jolly white giant mode by referring to oversized skeletons, and attributing the American mounds to a lost white race until 1894. But by the turn of the century the great white giant hope had become a glimmer of the past, a part of “fringe” science. (Meanwhile, some ideas considered fringe by 19th century scientists—such as the concept that rock fell from the sky—became mainstream science, as any meteorite hunter will attest.)

Move up to the 21st century and, guess what, the giants are back. Just the other day someone sent me an article dated from the World News Daily News professing that the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the American Institute of Alternative Archaeology (AIAA) against the Smithsonian Institute in a case claiming that the Smithsonian had destroyed thousand of giant skeletons in the early years of the 20th century. The fake article apparently has gained widespread attention on the Internet and many believe it’s real. But unfortunately for the believers there is no AIAA and no Supreme Court case involved the Smithsonian and the destruction of the remains of giants.

As a writer of fictional archaeology tales featuring the greatest archaeologists who never lived, I can sympathize to an extent with these adventures yarns, new and old, from the dark side of archaeology and journalism. Yet, in writing six original Indiana Jones novels—in addition to Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade—I worked under the guidance of George Lucas, who insisted that all artifacts be real-life objects, and all myths and legends be based on existing narratives. So, even in fiction writing, my stories needed to be based on some recognizable reality.

That included Indiana Jones and the Dance of the Giants! But my giants were made of stone, because the title is a folk name for Stonehenge. In the legend, a wizard—none other than Merlin—built it with stones he stole from Erin. Through his magic, he flew them from Wales and set them down on the great plains of Salisbury and made a ring of power to endure forever. According to the scribe Geoffrey of Monmouth, Merlin, the arch-Druid of Albion, built the Giant’s Dance to commemorate the treacherous slaying of Vortigern by Hengist, the Saxon, at nearby Amesbury.

All that said, our American giants, in spite of the help provided by the tabloids, probably will never become a legend in the heroic vein of Merlin’s tale. That would require the discovery of long hidden stone tablets or ancient scrolls telling of certain powerful giants possessing magical abilities, who filled the triple extra-large shoes of America’s ancient giants. Or maybe the next George R.R. Martin could make them up.
