Imagine it.
Orange man stands in front of a full length mirror with his strange orange/white hair, coiffed and sprayed so it doesn’t blow around in the wind, and stares at his orange face. Then he stabs his fingers at the image and shouts, “You are a genius king and you are going to make the world and its leaders and all its people believe that!”
But suddenly, the reflection explodes with laughter. and monster, confused, glances around trying to figure out how his reflection has come to life. “That’s not allowed!” he yells at his reflection, which is now doubled over with laughter. “I’m the boss of you!”
“Dude, you’re not the boss of anyone,” the reflection tells him. “You’re a joke, a meme, a spoiled little kid who’s going to get even with anyone who has ever ridiculed you, humiliated you. I could be like that mirror in the novel, you know, except that you’re a reflection of America’s soul. Pathetic, really.”
“You…you…you’re…a phony! Everyone loves me! I’ve done the more than any other president for this country! Everyone knows it!”
“And everyone knows you’re a pathological liar, a grifter, a convicted felon… well, orange donald, the list is long.Maybe it’s time for your supporters to read The Picture of Dorian Gray – if you and your sycophants haven’t banned it yet. Or hey, maybe you should read it first & then we’ll talk again.”
The reflection vanishes. Orange man spins around, certain the reflection is hiding in a corner of the room, in shadows, under a desk, a bed. But he doesn’t see it anywhere. Then, around him, laughter bounces against the walls, laughter so loud and raucous that it sounds like it fills the world.
He moves closer to the mirror, certain the reflection is in there somewhere, but the mirror is empty, just shiny glass that reflects nothing. Does this mean he’s just a spirit? An illusion? Irrelevant? Then he lunges at the mirror, beating it with his fists, kicking it until the glass breaks and he sinks to the floor, that raucous laughter closing in on him.
And when he recovers from this little episode, he order the National Guard into Washington, D.C. It is, after all, what kings are supposed to do.
