This illustration depicts a pair of fish swimming in opposite directions. It’s the symbol for the sun sign, Pisces, one of two signs in astrology that is depicted by two of something. It happens to be the sun sign for Mitt Romney, born on March 12, 1947, at 9:50 AM, in Detroit, Michigan.
Pisces individuals often have trouble making up their minds – their heads says one thing, their hearts scream another, thus the two fish are forever swimming away from each other. This tendency is certainly evident in Romney. Known as the consummate flip-flopper, he holds one position today, the opposition position tomorrow. When confronted with his many flip-flops, he just laughs and denies that he said the opposite of what he’s saying right now. He seems to be oblivious to the fact that everything he has ever said as a public figure is recorded somewhere.
This ambivalence is glaringly prevalent in Romney’s approach to health care as a governor of Massachusetts and his platform about health care as a presidential candidate. When Romney was governor, he initiated mandatory health care for all residents of Massachusetts, probably his most outstanding feat as a politician. And Romney’s health care plan became the template for Obama’s health care plan. Romney, the presidential candidate, promises to completely overturn Obamacare.
Huh? Go figure.
Well, the Obama campaign released an incredible ad today that highlights this ambivalence. “It tied the activities of Bain Capital to the death of a woman who lost her health care coverage as a result of her husband losing his job at GST Steel, one of the celebrated casualties of Bain’s business practices,” reports the Huffington Post (and every other news outlet).
Take a look:

The right-wing machine, of course, immediately came out against the ad – how scurrilous and nasty it is, one big fat lie. Yet, on Fox News yesterday morning, Andrea Saul, a Romney spokesperson, blew this whole thing wide open by offering this defense of Romney: “To that point, if (the) people had been in Massachusetts, under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care.”
WHAT?! Did she really say that? The right-wing machine went nuts. One conservative blogger said this was the moment when Romney had lost the election. Rush Limbaugh appeared to be on the verge of a stroke.
The left wing was instantly all over the story, noting the irony that Romney’s campaign has been forced to sweep his greatest feat as a politician under the rug, along with his undisclosed tax returns, his new home that features an elevator for his numerous cars, and what his net worth actually is.
So while Rob and I were watching the news this evening, I suddenly blurted, “Pisces.
Rob’s hands went up into the air, pointing in opposite directions. “The two fish, swimming in opposite directions,” he said. “You should do a post on that.”
So I went online to look for Romney’s natal chart. Ambivalence is certainly part of the Pisces archetype. But even more to the point with Romney, I think, is his Scorpio moon. This sign for the moon is probably the most secretive in the zodiac. We will never know the full truth about Mitt. Never. We will never understand what possessed him to put his dog, Shamus, in a dog carrier on the roof of his car for a trip to Canada. We will never know what travesties he actually committed at Bain Capital. And we will never know how much dough he has parked offshore, how much he’s worth, or whether he has paid in dime in taxes for the last decade. We will never know what it’s necessary to know about any presidential candidate in order to make an informed choice in how we vote.
But because of what he did to his dog, Shamus, he has long since lost the vote of dog lovers everywhere, and as of 2009, the most recent figures I could find, that amounts to nearly 80 million people.
I’ve read a few theories about why he keeps making gaffes. One is that he has lived far too long “in the bubble”. As a CEO and as a bishop of an LDS ward as well as being a Stake President in the LDS Church, he’s used to being surrounded by “yes men”, so his views or statements have never gotten challenged or questioned or second guessed. He never learned the “give and take” of politics, as all members of Congress, as well as state governors who deal with opposition party in the legislatures, know very well.
The second theory is that he’s running like he doesn’t really want to win. He’s conflicted. He’s running because its the expected thing for him to do, “the thing” that will surpass his father, but at the soul level, he really doesn’t want to be president. There’s a huge disconnect. An integrated person wouldn’t have such a strange divide between what they say and what they’ve done.
If he does become president, our country is in serious trouble. I believe he could be even more devastating than Bush was. I’m seriously going to have to consider contingency plans to leave the country for good, because after four or eight years of Romney, our country will be completely gutted. No Social Security, no Medicare / Medicaid, nothing but low wage jobs and lots of unemployed people to take your place if your boss decides to get rid of you, with no unemployment insurance to help you sustain yourself while looking for work. Such economic devastation will also increase the crime rate as people turn to crime to survive. With the amount of guns being sold in this country, I just don’t want to be in this country anymore when the Republican Party finishes the job Bush was unable to complete due to his post-Katrina unpopularity and Democratic Congress in the last two years of his presidency.
I hate to sound pessimistic, but all you have to do is read between the lines. The Republicans hide their real goals by accusing the Democrats of doing what the Republicans hope to do when they are in power. If people are hesitant about voting for Obama because of disappointment, consider what happened in 2000. Love or hate Al Gore, you know that our country would not have been put through the financial ringer if Gore had inherited Clinton’s surplus.
Well put!
As someone that got sucked into LDS at a vulnerable time in my life, and had an almost impossible time getting away from it with it’s long reaching arms and scary tactics. I honestly think he has been put into place by LDS as one of its ambitions within the LDS missions. This is a group of very scary people…I know first hand, and this alone has me completely convinced that you’re right Nicholas…he really doesn’t want to win…he’s doing it for his LDS mission goal.
With Paul Ryan as his VP choice, I think everyone should have an escape plan now. Ryan is one of the scariest people around. His policies would hurl women’s rights back into the dark ages, his policies would bankrupt us, and the most vulnerable people in society would be living on the
streets.
wiht that logic “math” crack smoking should be legal “NO???”,,, don’t worry girl,, this over 50 thing a fading intellect,,, got me thinking 2
This explains it – all the flip flopping – all the deceit. I wouldn’t have voted for him anyway, but this post is spot on. The man lacks integrity and honor. And so does his wife.
This ad is killer.
Yeah, I agree. The ad and Shamus.
Romney lost ME on two major points: his dog, and women’s rights to make decisions about our bodies. Pardon my grammar….but AIN’T NO MAN ALIIVE GONNA DICTATE TO ME WHAT I CAN OR CANNOT DO WITH MY OWN BODY! Period. End of MY story about him!
Oh yeah, that reason, too!
You are welcome to Romney – he didn’t create a very good impression when he visited the UK.
He told NBC News he saw, “a few things that were disconcerting” about London’s preparation for the Olympics. He then backtracked and said how many minor problems would be “overshadowed by the extraordinary demonstrations of courage, character and determination by the athletes”.
He further backtracked by saying, “I am very delighted with the prospects of a highly successful Olympic Games. What I have seen shows imagination and forethought and a lot of organisation. I expect the Games to be highly successful.”
Romney also wrote: “England is just a small island. [England isn’t an island!] Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn’t make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn’t been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler’s ambitions.”
He certainly knows how win friends and influence people!
I read about that. What a great diplomat, right? Dale Carnegie would flunk him.
wow! goes to show – the stars have it – in more ways than one! great insightful post!!!
To answer your question, DJan, and to comment on Gypsy’s “the stars have it” Mercury turns retro on election day. In the 2000 election, a few minutes after Brokaw had announced that Florida went to Gore, Mercury turned direct.
And that election went all the way to the supreme court. I suspect the result of this election won’t be decided on election day.
I have long wondered how he intended to overlook the fact that health care in Massachusetts is the template for Obamacare. Now I realize that many politicians just repeat lies over and over and know that if they say it long enough and loud enough, people will believe it’s true. Mitt is not alone is being secretive. Does astrology make any predictions about the national election? I’d be curious…
He just doesn’t talk about it. So it haunts him!
