Will It Come in Threes Again?

Ted Kennedy died yesterday, August 25, and when we read about it this morning, we wondered if there would be two more. Less than 24 hours later, writer Dominic Dunne passed away at the age of 83.

On November 22, 1963, JFK was assassinated. And authors Aldous Huxley and C.S. Lewis also passed away.

It would be nice if death didn’t come in threes this time.

Wow. Ted Kennedy, Dominic Dunne and Ellie Greenwich. I know there is something for me to learn about these three, dying on the 4th anniversary of my daddy's death. And the remnants of hurricane Katrina put the lights out during daddy's wake for an hour.

Daddy was an electrician. Also, Irish Catholic of a renown family (in the Cleveland diocese) and an amazing singer. Power, Privilege, and Justice are truths he understood though many considered my daddy too narrow in his judgments. 🙂

Synchronicity is meaningful coincidence and what that means to me, personally, may be different from what is perceived by 'the whole'. But this connection of 3 deaths, on the anniversary of my daddy's death, is for me to review and learn something.

And it was the mention of the storm, and "O, Danny Boy" that triggered something in me. We'll see where it leads, what lesson I'll learn.

I'm also being tapped daily with 9:11, and I have little doubt that is a 3-fold message as well. We're having our roof done, not conducive to working on my 9/11 novel, but Ed just went to bed, with the comment "there's a storm coming by Friday, gotta get the roof done."

Another synchronicity related to Ted Kennedy's death involved nature. Yesterday, tropical storm Danny was blowing into Masssachusetts during the memorial service. Interestingly, Kennedy loved to sing Irish songs, and one of the most famous of course is 'O, Danny Boy.'

oops, Muriel died on August 22… heck if I know where May 22 came from?

  4. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

Thanks, Toumai. Will check it out. I think anonymous hit it with Ellie Greenwich, who died the same day as Kennedy and Dunne.

  5. Toumai says:

Muriel Duckworth, a prominent Canadian woman … a world shaker and mover on the Peace front passed away on May 22, 2009. She will be sadly missed. There is also a synchronicity around how it was that our lives would meet back in 1984.

To your list, add Rick Warner, Hannity, O'Reilly, and most of the Fox news commentators who think that hatred ups their ratings.

When I analyze the death of a famous person on my blog, the question I always ask is: is the world a better place because this person had lived? Despite the personal flaws of Michael Jackson and Ted Kennedy, the good they did touched millions of lives and did make the world a better place because they had lived.

Someone like Jerry Falwell or Rush, though…they spend their whole lives creating divisions between people. There are those who claim that people like Kennedy or Clinton are "divisive", but if you look at the stuff they tried to accomplish, it seems rather inclusive of people. They didn't (don't) seek to divide and conquer. Just because conservatives don't like their politics does not make them divisive. Divisive is the kind of language that Rush and Falwell uses / used in order to keep their followers hating instead of reaching out and working together.

So, I will always mourn the passing of people like Jackson and Kennedy, while not shedding a tear when its Rush's turn.

  8. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

Rush is always too giddy when it comes to the misery/death of liberals.Hate mongering has made him a very rich man.

  9. Sansego says:

Rush was a little too giddy about Ted Kennedy's passing, though. All the hatred in his system can't be good for him.

  10. GYPSYWOMAN says:

so truly sad both kennedy and dunne –

then there is the story of dunne's beautiful actress daughter Dominique Ellen Dunne of poltergeist – and the stories of that film –

and oh, way too much bad karma on the rush thing!! yewhhhh…..

  11. whipwarrior says:

    Probably! LOL 🙂

  12. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

Love it, whip warrior! Maybe we're all peninsulas?!:)

  13. whipwarrior says:

The Donne quote reminded me of Robin Williams' immortal take on it from The Survivors: "No man is an island, and some men are peninsulas." LOL

  14. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

I had to Google Ellie Greenwich. Died Aug 26, 2009. Today. You may be onto something, Anonymous.

Rush? Sigh. The world could use one less hate monger. But I shudder to wish death on anyone, even Rush.

    Ellie Greenwich

  16. Sansego says:

I wouldn't be too heartbroken, though, if Rush Limbaugh rounded out the trio.

  17. Nancy says:

I guess it was their time. Lives lived long and well. What more can we ask for?

  18. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
    – John Donne

I didn't hear about the passing of Dominic Dunne. He's always been one of my favorites. I love his TV show, Power, Priviledge, And Justice. So sad, but I guess he's lived a long life.

It does seem like death comes in threes though.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls….
