Disclosure. Other people have written about this far more eloquently, but I’ve been thinking about this ever since I read something about Obama possibly becoming the “disclosure president.”
So let’s pretend. Let’s pretend there’re a news conference where this actually happens. Let’s pretend this revelation occurs in the Rose Garden and that it’s pretty much like many of us have figured. Something WAS recovered at Roswell – or some nearby location – in 1947. Technology WAS exchanged with an alien race. Deals WERE struck. Disinformation HAS BEEN the primary method of keeping everything quiet because we, the people, would be totally freaked out if we knew the truth.
But here’s the thing. Popular culture – books, movies, You Tube videos, social media – have prepared us for this eventuality for years. From ET to The Visitors, from Independence Day and Men in Black to Childhood’s End and The Fifth Wave, from Communion to Missing Time, we the people have gotten the message and total freakout is unlikely.
According to a Newsweek article in September 2015, slightly more than fifty percent of Americans, Germans, and Brits believe we aren’t alone in the universe.
“The poll, conducted by the market-research company YouGov, found the Germans are most likely to believe, at 56 percent, followed by Americans and British, at 54 and 52 percent, respectively.”
So what kind of shock waves would this news trigger? It probably would depend on the evidence Obama has to back up his announcement. Is an alien standing next to him? Does he have convincing video? Photos? Documents? Has Obama gone rogue to make this announcement? Have the aliens created a spectacle in the sky, with hovering crafts?
Regardless, this would be a moment like the JFK or MLK assassinations, like 9-11, when everyone would remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news. It would trigger a massive paradigm shift. Science would scramble to explain it. Religions probably would attribute it to divine intervention. Psychology would struggle to stick it in a niche of some kind. And Carl Jung would be turning over in his grave, anxious to update his ideas of what this might mean as an archetypal event.
The intriguing component of an event like this is that people who have had encounters, experienced abductions, seen UFOs, would feel validated. Experts would emerge, people eager to interpret it all and make sense of the information for the rest of us. Maybe mankind as a collective would be so swept up in the drama that war would end or perhaps the military would be galvanized to take on the new enemy.
The discourse in this year’s election season would undoubtedly include campaign promises about how to deal with the aliens. Trump would build a wall and ban them from the U.S. Clinton would ramp up the military and maybe attempt to open a negotiation. Sanders might tap one of them as his V.P.
Several years ago, Rob, Megan, and I were returning home from a dinner at a local restaurant and I pointed at the sunset sky and asked, If a UFO suddenly appeared, how would that change us?
Silence in the car. Then Megan said, “It would depend on our belief system.”
And I think she was right. If you don’t believe in something, then it’s not on your radar, it hasn’t registered on your consciousness. So there might be a lot of people who wouldn’t see the evidence that Obama presents. But if there was tangible evidence – an alien standing next to him, crafts in the sky – then even non-believers would have to deal with it.
Beyond that, all sorts of scenarios are possible – chaos, disintegration, acceptance, new technology, new ideas about the nature of reality, resistance, more war, peace, a better world… You get the idea. The scenario that evolved would depend on our collective reaction to disclosure.
You are right! It is KNOWING, not KNOWINGS! I think I was thinking about the
“numbers” that are the basis of the story and forgot it is singular, not plural. My bad!
Nic Cage gives a stunning performance in it, in my opinion, and the special effects are good as well. I really was shocked and surprised by the ending! For me, a movie worth watching,. Thanks for clarifying the title!
Jane, I’ve been under the weather for awhile and just scrolled thru the past several blog posts. You commented that you haven’t seen KNOWINGS or CONTACT. Both of them require undivided attention, and both will need a few tissues closeby. Don’t won’t to give you a spoiler, but will say this: CONTACT addresses the gov’t coverups, and KNOWINGS is spellbinding and moves at a rapid pace, so you won’t want to miss a single moment. Jodie Foster and Matthew McConnaghy (sp?) star in Contact and are superb. Knowings also has stars on the “A” list as well. Both movies are very well done,
very intriguing, and view the subject of alien intervention on this planet from various aspects.
I think it’s KNOWING, singular, starring Nicholas Cage, 2009.
we are such a war like aggressive planet the general populace would be in fear & those of us who know they exist would be fascinated & feel validated. The establishment clearly reluctant to admit their cover up for so many years.
but then again along the lines of this disclosure stuff… There is disclosure… then there is disclosure… The people could be told……. me I am one always to believe what I am told.. Or we could be shown… Wala!! truth is nothing short of an example of an inexplainable power!!
There were plenty of people on the busy road where my daughter and I witnessed a floating ship right next to the road.
I think people see what makes sense to them and the rest is filtered out. It would explain chem trails and how some people seem to be oblivious to them – and some seem to actually not SEE them! I pointed some really bad ones out to a lady in Portland and she literally could not see what I was talking about. It was a thick, ropy, white trail that was quickly spreading out over a large area, and she could not see what I was talking about. The sky looked clear to her.
I have the same prob here Nancy, people just can’t see what’s in plain sight, Wales uk is under a thick grey dome of cloud most of the time & can see the Chemtrails being sprayed! We also had the wettest winter on record which was weather manipulation & in London the night before the referendum vote there was a 5 hour thunderstorm in London that felt manipulated too.
There are two old movies that speak to this subject. One of these, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, demonstrated the need for PEACE or suffer annihilation. The second, WAR OF THE WORLDS, depicted a horrific malevolent species destroying this planet. There is ET: presenting a child-like loving tenderness in the presence of alien entities. In CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, (my favorite) we see the return of many humans who have been “taken”, and the ‘taking’ of a single believer into the Mother Ship, but the ‘taking’ was benevolent and demonstrated that MUSIC is indeed the Universal Language. More recently, the movie KNOWINGS was pretty stunning, ultimately ending with gentle aliens taking children because Earth was being destroyed by our Sun. My other favorite is CONTACT. I have a profound sense that this one was an intuitive work by its creator. For me, CONTACT may be closest to the reality in several ways. However, we certainly have been offered scenarios from both the negative and positive possibilities, which seems to be potentially accurate….there are both sides to the Visitor coin. And then, perhaps WE humans are actually The Visitors here and THEY are the true earth inhabitants.A compelling idea…..
I have some movies to catch up on, not seen knowing or contact! Thanks
Disclosure would definitely be an earth-changing event. I recently watched both Independence Day movies, and I think they accurately depict widespread panic as the most likely reaction. Most people would freak out, except longtime alien believers, who would watch events unfold with extreme interest and (as you mentioned) a sense of validation. It would still be incredibly unnerving to witness the extraterrestrial contact scenario actually happening in our present reality, and I would hope that the terrified masses would quickly cue into the believers calm ‘wait and see’ attitude. Fear is a natural reaction to the unknown, with the outcome dependent on what the aliens’ ultimate intentions are. One hopes for benevolent contact; a mutually beneficial meeting of societies with positive effects for the future of our planetary civilization. “We come in peace.”
At this point in human history, we really need it.
Not to throw cold water on Trish’s post, but there is this:
“It is laughable to believe that Obama would take on disclosure of an extraterrestrial presence; he or his advisers saw that this would not benefit or his administration…Unlike Carter, Reagan and Clinton, Obama has shown no interest in the subject.”
– Larry Holcombe, The Presidents and UFOs: A Secret History from FDR to Obama (2015)
That said John Podesta became an advisor to Obama in his second term. Podesta has been outspoken about the need to find out the truth about UFOs. If he had any impact on Obama regarding the subject, it’s still unclear. However, now he is Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager and she has called for disclosure in at least one campaign speech, though I don’t think she used that term. Of course campaign promises often turn out to be hollow words. Speaking and doing are two different matters.
Here’s what Podesta said in 2002 at the National Press Club: “I think it’s time to open the books on things that have remained in the dark; on the questions of government investigations of UFOs. It’s time to find out what the truth really is that’s out there. We ought to do it because it’s right; we ought to do it because the American people quite frankly can handle the truth; and we ought to do it because it’s the law.”
Podesta also wrote the introduction to Leslie Kean’s book: UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record.(2011)
