Birthday Surprise

I like to keep our books organized so I can find what I’m looking for. Since we have a couple of thousand tomes, that can be a challenge. Sometimes I find a book through the ‘angel librarian’ rather than through any organizational scheme. Sometimes the angel librarian will just ‘toss’ something out for the fun of it.

That was the case recently when I noticed a synchronicity book that was out of place by a couple of shelves from our collection of books on the subject. I pulled it out and saw that it was: SYNCHRONICITY: The Art of Coincidence, Choice, and Unlocking Your Mind, by Kirby Surprise. I pulled it out to re-shelf it and smiled. Just minutes earlier, one of those Facebook pop up had come onto my computer screen telling me that it was Kirby Surprise’s birthday. Surprise…surprise!

So, for the fun of it, I opened the book at random, and I use that term loosely, and here’s the story that appeared, set off as a sidebar.

“It was a time of great change and turmoil in my life. I was only a few months out of my parent’s home, working two jobs, and going to school full-time. There was also a social life, concerns over spiritual growth, and exploration of synchronistic phenomena to be balanced. One evening I was at home feeling swamped and sorry for myself. There was just too much to do and not enough time to get it all done.

“The radio played a local rock station. I was aware of synchronistic events in general at the time, but not of any subjective connection to them. Exasperated at my situation and having a playful bent toward the dramatic, I raised my hands s if addressing heaven and called  ‘Father, I’m tired of this. How about a break?’ I must have said this exactly between songs because the next words to boom out over the speakers were the first in a song by by the group Kansas; ‘Carry on my wayward son, there will be peace when you re done. Lay your weary head to rest, don’t you cry no more…’ This seemingly intelligent response shocked me and left me in a state of wonder. The problems I was complaining about suddenly seemed unimportant.”

That’s a good one, and may even a message for someone right now feeling the same as Kirby was before the synchro popped up. If so, then maybe this post was a nice surprise!

    Nice surprise.
I’ve read that book years ago and wrote a post about it in 2012 when I had a few synchronicities by surprise at the time –
    ‘Steering Synchronicity by Surprise’

Funny looking back at that post as one of the dogs (Jack) has since passed away.
Kirby has an interesting theory in his book, but I don’t think it is the whole story when it comes to synchronicity.
His book is worth a read though.
