A 2015 Q&A from the Smithsonian Insider suggests that Neanderthals went extinct because of climate change. Kind of a political synchronicity: Neanderthals didn’t believe in climate change and paid the price. Humans out of Africa were more adaptive to climate change and survived.

While the study is a theory, there has never been any evidence of wars between humans and Neanderthals. Quite the contrary, humans and Neanderthals mated, though there probably was no flowers or chocolates involved. So many of us now carry between 1-4 percent DNA of Neanderthal origin.
That bit of DNA might just be biting us back now as we see so many of a particular political persuasion who don’t believe in climate change. Synchronicity.

As in the novel, much of On the Beach takes place in Melbourne, close to the southernmost part of the Australian mainland.

Darren is spot on. If you scroll back to MEXICO AND THE PLANETARY EMPATHS post on the blog, you’ll see my comment on 9-21 that “there will be volcanic eruptions unlike any we have seen in the past”. So here we go………and my PE symptoms simply will not give me a rest. It seems as if everywhere I turn I see and feel catastrophe, either happening or preparing to manifest…..some are man-made, most are natural. If North Korea doesn’t back down and continues the war of words with DJT, well, I suppose we’ll be battling radiation for the next several hundred years. Not a pun.
I remember, CJ! You’re able to decipher volcanic symptoms fairly easily, it seems. I sure none of us have to battle radiation. Maybe trump needs to read On the Beach.
I simply can’t understand how any person can live on this planet at this time and deny that the climate is drastically changing. Just doesn’t make sense to say it isn’t so. Maybe all these deniers need to sit down and watch the movie THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. I honestly think such a day may be coming, and we need to at least be somewhat prepared. Already, there are many different species of creatures in the wild that are extinct or on the edge of extinction, and zoologists say it is due to changes in their environments. Have no idea what we can do about it, but to me it just seems the folks who deny it aren’t paying attention or simply don’t WANT it to be true even as it’s symptoms are wiping out entire cities and islands. Crazy.
Totally nuts.
I think that Mother Earth is trying to right things herself at the moment, as there are two volcanoes ready to blow any minute over this side of the world.

Darren, TryTHE BONE LABYRINTH by James Rollins.It deals, in part, with the union of humans and Neanderthals.Between the action scenes, he weaves in some interesting speculative history and science. I liked it. But he’s hard to please with fiction, so it’s probably like he says.
I’ll put it on my reading list…which is pretty long at the moment.
