TURNING 30! Happy Birthday, Megan!

Thirty years ago, on August 31, 1989, our daughter, Megan, was born. No C-section, no spinal, but a shot of Demerol for pain, and a very long labor – 30 hours. She’d been due on September 4, but was born the day after a solar eclipse in Virgo. In Florida, any child born before September 1 of a given year can start kindergarten at 5. My sense is that Megan wanted to be sure she could start school at age 5, so she was born less than four hours before the midnight deadline.

Three days after she was born, I drove over to a New Age bookstore and paid 5 bucks for a copy of her natal chart. In those days, there was no handy astrology software on phones or iPads. In fact, it would be 18 years before the first iPhone hit the market. My friend and astrology mentor, Renie Wiley, came over that evening, took one look at Megan’s chart, and started talking. Now, 30 years later, I realize that just about everything Renie said has proven to be right on target.

When she was eight, we had her I.Q. tested. She falls into the MENSA range, so she entered a gifted program in third grade. She always had an affinity for animals – her first word, at 7 months, was – not Mom or Dad – but “cat.” She always loved listening to stories, being read to. Even before she could walk, she had a lot of books and enjoyed paging through them. By three or four, she was reading. By five, in kindergarten, she started keeping journals.

By the time she entered the gifted program, her intuitive ability was full blown. It’s described here, in one of early posts in 2009, about the golden retriever she was going to get.

In fact, in looking back through 10 years of this blog, I found all sort of birthday tributes to Megan.

Happy 22, Megan!

But the 30th birthday is truly special. Much of what Renie told me about Megan’s chart is in place. After the gifted program, she attended a public charter school for acting. She and Rob published a book for teens on dreams and one on astrology before she graduated from high school. She attended New College, the honors college in Florida’s state college system, and majored in art.

Today, she’s an entrepreneur, self-employed as an artist and dog sitter and is just finishing her first book, a Dystopian novel that far surpasses anything Rob and I have written. The only time she worked a 9-5 job was an internship at Disney, with dolphins. And, true to the placement of Uranus in her 10th house of careers, she chafed at the restrictions, the rules, and decided at the end of that internship that she wouldn’t ever work for anyone else.

Part of what Renie said, all of which has proven true:

“My God, this girl is artistic, has a wonderful imagination and is quite intuitive. She has a way with animals, too, and if she doesn’t go to vet school, she’ll do this animal thing in some other unique way. She’s very bright.

“She’s going to have allergies – but she’ll move past it. For most of her childhood, I think she’ll be a picky eater. She’ll grow out of it, though. And with three planets in Virgo, she’ll also try her hand at writing. And succeed! That South Node in Leo indicates she may delve into acting at some point. And oh, she’s going to have tons of friends and they’re all going to congregate at your place.
“If she ever has a 9-5 job, she’ll be bored to tears. Her career will be erratic, unique, she’ll create her own niche and art and animals will be a part of whatever she does. There are strong past life connections between her chart and yours and Rob’s. She’s a joyful soul, Trish.”

So, happy 30th, Megger! You’re a special soul and the best of everything Rob and I have created. Thank you for choosing us as your parents!
