The Power of Symbols

Symbols are powerful. Carl Jung knew it. Rosa Parks knew it. Martin Luther King knew it. Princess Di  knew it. And it seems that some members of congress now know it.

The U.S. Capitol is a symbol of democracy. On January 6, it was invaded by a mob that trump had incited. They broke into the chambers of the senate and house of representatives, a shocking metaphor for democracy and freedom under siege. But beneath the symbol, senators and members of Congress cowered in fear in their offices, under desks, behind stacked chairs. Beneath the symbol, the siege became personal.

The fact that the siege was televised all over the world, that international leaders expressed their horror and revulsion at what they were seeing on their televisions, became a humiliation. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz have become another type of symbol – that of hungry ambition, without moral compass. Like trump, really.

Another weird symbol during that siege – that mobster wearing horns and what looked like war paint on his face. He didn’t wear a mask, so I suspect he won’t be difficult to identify. But what about the rest of these brainwashed, dangerous idiots?

And will any form of censure be taken against Cruz, Hawley, Cotton? And what about all those members of congress who signed on to object to the certification process even after the siege on the Capitol? Are there consequences for that? And all of this, of course, took place during a major symbol – a pandemic.

According to Worldometer, the U.S. has the highest number of covid cases in the world – 23,340,710  as of today, January 12, with 389,041 total deaths. We also lead the world for the  worst failure on the globe for containing this pandemic. Even our vaccine distribution is a joke. These figures are symbols of the trump era.

He never dealt with the pandemic like a leader. He lied.

He never led anything. He lied.

And his lies were believed by his cult followers.

When symbols are broken and created from that rubble, then we’re at the juncture of the old paradigm and the new, an old paradigm that no longer serves us struggling to survive as a new, more egalitarian paradigm moves in, a force of nature.

May impeachment or the 25th amendment get rid of him, please. And then let’s see  this conman hit with the fact that the law is coming for him, his tax returns, and his corrupt kids and inner circle.

The US Capitol does not symbolize democracy but republic, because that is what we have. A democratic form of government would be elected into office by popular vote. So given that our representative democracy is corrupt and has turned on itself by attacking its own symbol, don’t you think that conveys an even larger message? Maybe the Repubs will get rid of the electoral college for us, now that it no longer works for them.
That would be a true paradigm shift.

I swear to God, I hope that fucker drops dead. He has high blood pressure anyway, so a massive stroke would be ideal to put him away quickly. Act of God, nobody to blame. Dead men don’t lead cults. January 20th can’t arrive soon enough. Democracy is greatly missed, and long overdue. We need our country back!

ps…………….I understand that the moron with the horns and painted face was from Arizona. Another distinction for us – thanks to our Republican governor, who won’t even issue a mask mandate, we are also now leading the nation and the world in number of Covid cases. In Navajo country Doctors Without Borders, who normally work in places like the Congo, have come in, which tells you just how far we’ve fallen since Trump.

No mask mandate in florida, either. Our gov is a trump lapdog.

I’m going to the cinema to see ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ ironically, with my youngest son tonight here in Brisbane, Australia, and we have to wear masks in the cinema now until at least January 22nd, 2021, or cop a $1300 fine.
Maybe I should wear a cape as well? 🙂

        • Trish and Rob says:

You should both wear capes! We went to a theater in Orlando in June to see Inception again. We wore masks. Only 3 other people were in the theater. Our masks came off when we ate popcorn! It as a good feelling, though, to be inside a theater again.

          • Darren B says:

I’m wondering if we can eat snacks in the cinema.
But we are having dinner at a fast food joint before the movie anyway, so I guess I’ll survive seeing a movie without a snack attack.
I just watched the first ‘Wonder Woman’ movie on my iPad to refresh my memory and they were wearing gas masks in the end of that movie, so there are worse masks we could be wearing tonight I guess. 🙂

            • Trish and Rob says:

              So theaters are open?

              • Darren B says:

Yeah, they opened in Brisbane on Tuesday, after the 3 day lock-down, but they’ve been open around Australia.
If I went down the road to the Gold Coast to watch this movie, I wouldn’t have to wear a mask.
In our Australian state of Queensland it’s only the capital city and surrounds where you have to wear one until January 22nd, because of someone who had the UK strain was loose for a while.
So far there haven’t been any more transmissions outside of quarantine.

I think it is very important that this not continue to be normalized. That members of congress are allowed to continue to serve without censure after going along with this incitation to riot, that Trump has not been immediately relieved of official status or power, that members of Congress are still permited to object to the lawful transfer of power…………says that our country has become normalized to chaos, corruption, and lies. I also think it is important that organizations and individuals who disseminate what is clearly untrue be held accountable, such as Fox News now saying that there were probably “Antifa” terrorists doing this, etc., because such organizations will continue to destabilize our country. We have come very close to becoming a dictatorship, such as Russia’s short lived democracy under Putin, etc. And the ignorance and facsist violence under Trump nearly made it happen. It must not be allowed to take further root.

I believe Biden and Harris have an unimaginately difficult task ahead of them, yet increasingly, I feel they are perhaps the best people that could have stepped up to it.
