A Premonition?

In 2024, when we visited the islands

Daughter Megan is currently a naturalist and guide  for whale tours in the San Juan Islands in Washington state. So the day  before the earthquake in Russia that triggered so many tsunami alerts for the west coast of the U.S., Hawaii, Japan, etc, I found myself worrying about what she would do if a tsunami hit the islands while she was on the tour boat. I wrote it off to maternal concern and being a fiction writer.

Then the next day, I saw the news online & immediately texted her. She was on tour & already knew about it. She had a double   tour that day –  & since everyone has a cell phone these days, everyone on board knew about it. She asked the captain what he thought they should do. He said he’d never been in this situation before and the best thing was to remain calm & keep an eye on the updates.

As it turned out,  the islands didn’t experience much of anything. In the future, if I have feelings like this, I won’t dismiss them as maternal worry or a fiction writer’s imagination. We all sense the future at certain times in our lives and the trick to recognizing it as a premonition is to not dismiss it immediately.
