The Vulture’s Message

We have a lot of vultures in South Florida. They cruise through the air like dark, slow-moving missiles, looking for road kill. In our area, they especially like the back roads that wend past sprawling equestrian estates and the canals.
This morning, we were on one of those back roads, on our way home from Whole Foods, and were discussing the fiscal disaster of Obama’s tax cut extensions for the top two percent of wealthiest Americans.
“He lost my vote for 2012,” I said, slowing for a speed bump and watching a couple of vultures just ahead as they soared low over the road.
“We need a true progressive president who can come in and clean up this mess,” Rob said.
And just then, one of the vultures swept directly in front of us, missing the car by inches.
“Wow,” Rob said. “You’re lucky it didn’t hit you.”
“Me? You’re in the car, too. And you’re the one who hit those swallows when we were coming back from Sarasota, and that whole thing was connected to Megan and her close call skydiving. So what’s the vulture’s message?”
“Vultures clean up road kill.”
At that point, we looked at each other, realizing the vulture had swept in front of us seconds after Rob had said, Clean up this mess. It was our first synchronicity for the day.
On a deeper level, though, I wonder if it portends a battle between vultures for the 2012 presidential election.

Nat, I LOVE that WV and see it in my mind! Deep chuckles! We actually have birds here who eat berries that have some kind of enzyme in them that creates drunkenness, and it's a trip to watch our fine feathered friends after they consume a few of these berries! The berries don't harm the birds. They just cause enebriation! (And a lot of colorful bird poo on the windshields!) 🙂 Oh gee whiz, look at this WV: "trucksm" cj

I just popped in to read along and the wv is wingsh.

    Drunk vulture? 🙂

Wow. Didn't know about nolo contender. Great information and really appropriate. Accepting responsibility for one's actions is huge when we consider the global connection of humanity through many dimensions of time.

When I saw the WV – nolos – I saw no loss.

    My new WV is: reextr

With the Mercury retrograde those letters could have many meanings. 😀

  4. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

Terri – that WV nolos. I immediately thought of nolo contender- the legal term for not accepting responsibility for one's actions.

I also like d page's insight on the vulture mystic: "they are a symbol of a vast view in a bigger picture. This is because of their work on the ground in the cycle of life & death and because of heights & expanse of their flight."

The sheer volume of individuals that exist within the political machine always staggers me when I consider our USA president. His work on the ground is to clean up a mess decades deep and thousands of agendas wide, while he is surrounded by vultures.

    WV: nolos

  6. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

OK, today on the same road, we saw a hawk, No synchro involved, though!

Ditto, Nancy. Conspiracies can and do occur, often among the people and places we least expect to find them. cj

  8. Nancy says:

Love Debra's take on the vultures. I think they are amazing creatures, actually. As for Obama, I'm afraid he is part of the fraternity now. None of them have our best interests at heart. We're on our own. I've never been a conspiracy theorist. But that's changing.

    wv – ressists!

  9. GYPSYWOMAN says:

oh, how neat is this one!!! cleanin' up the mess! and a bird messenger/doer and i love dp's take – great great story – really interesting to me personally because just yesterday my sister and i had been down to the duck pond again [where the black hawks were] and i kept wondering where the herons were – i mean there were none at all on or around the pond – as we left the pond and got down to the end of a canal section, there, sitting in a weeping willow tree were 7 herons – and i said "so i wonder what they're waiting on" – hmmmmm…..maybe the birds really have it right now!!!

  10. Natalie says:

    Yes, I like Debra's take too. 🙂

    wv =metophol
    metaphor?

  11. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

Debra- I knew you'd have another take on this. Love this.

  12. d page says:

Vultures are very sacred in Tibetan Buddhism. Also throughout ancient Eurasia… as evidenced in temples such as Catal Huyuk & Goblekli Tepi.
Besides being a symbol of "cleaning up the mess", they are a symbol of a vast view in a bigger picture. This is because of their work on the ground in the cycle of life & death and because of heights & expanse of their flight.

  13. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

We need a bunch of vultures on either side of the atlantic to clean up the mess, Mike.

Lauren – I didn't realize blue herons were found in Arizona! What a nice message for you personally!

  14. 67 Not Out (Mike Perry) says:

I'll refrain from the Obama debate as we have enough problems here in the UK to be concerned about. Great vulture synchro though. Hope your mess will soon be cleaned up along with ours on this side of the Atlantic.

  15. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

    >>Can anyone, or any group, clean up our mess?

Not with people like Ralph Hall in charge.

    This is from Josh Marshall:

Rep. Ralph Hall (R) of Texas has been in the news this week because the octogenarian anti-environment crusader is taking over as chairman of the House Science and Technology Committee. But here at TPM we remember him for another proud moment: the day thirteen years ago when he slandered a teenaged sex slave into the House record on behalf of then-lobbyist Jack Abramoff. "[S]he wanted to do nude dancing," said Hall of the fifteen-year-old girl who was taken from her parents in the Phillippines and forced to perform sex acts on stage and before video cameras at a Northern Marianas sex club.

  16. Lauren says:

I love finding other people who look to birds to deliver messages! This morning, I saw a blue heron flying high over Tucson; an extraordinary sight.

Can anyone, or any group, clean up our mess?

  17. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

DJan – I know just what you mean about voting FOR rather than against. It was the same for us. Maggie – interesting insight about Chicago. Weird wv! Led it…

Today it would be great to see some other bird with a more positive message.

  18. maggie's garden says:

I have to agree with DJan…where are we headed? I was skeptical about Obama from the beginning…. since I live in Chicagoland…I'm sure everyone knows what kind of politics we have here. We call it cronyism politics. A few of our politicians have and are spending time in prison for it. Obama is no exception when it comes to cronyism.

    wv: leadril

  19. DJan says:

Voting for Obama was one of my first times I could vote FOR someone rather than AGAINST the other. Now, today, I wonder where our poor country is headed. Thanks for the thoughtful comments on my blog.
