It’s a Mira Morales book, the 7th in the series. Those 2 dogs on the back are Nigel, the Golden, still very much with us, and Nika, who was with us until 2023. The macaw on the front, Stephanie, is a macaw we met on a trip to Costa Rica.
The actual Stephanie. One of the other dog stars in the novel is Noah, the red Golden Retriever who passed in 2019. He and Nika were Nigel’s mentors.
And there’s even a cat – Beowulf. I adopted him during Covid, when my sister, Mary, asked if I would adopt one of the 3 feral cats she’d taken in some years earlier, who were living in her huge basement because her husband was allergic to cats. So I went up to Marietta and went into her basement and shook a container of treats. Beo is the only one of the three who came out to say hi. A couple weeks later, we met in Orlando and Beo became our cat. He passed away in 2024.
& all of these guys – plus another hundred or so – are up against some terrible humans who tried to weaponize them. But the experiment failed miserably and enhanced their intelligence. The real antagonist behind this is the governor of Florida, who took over Disney’s animal rescue organization during his attacks on Disney.

…the orange man’s antics and push toward dictatorship continues or is alredy here and marching forward. Masked ICE agents in American cities, people dragged off the streets because they are the wrong color or speak a language other than English or just because they’re in the way. Five minutes of the news – except for Fox and its right wing cousins – are enough to see the horror of it all.
So, get out on Saturday, October 18, and protest. Make signs. Join the massive groups of people who are shuddering just as you are. So choose your spot! NO KINGS.

What the tarot predicted
On the evening of October 9, I asked the tarot if trump would win the Nobel Peace Prize that he coveted.I laughed when I drew these 3 cards.
To the left, the 6 of wands, addresses the issue: a win. Would he win?
The middle card, the 5 of pentacles, is actually defined as poverty or lack of $. Or an emotion that feels that way. The last card, the 8 of swords, says it all! It’s about being blocked from forward movement.
I showed them to Rob. “He isn’t going to win.”
Rob: “The cards could address what you hope will happen.”
Which us why when it comes to any question about trump, I usually preface the draw with a request for the actual truth – rather than what I hope to see.
This morning, Oct 10, Rob was on his way out the door when he told me trump hadn’t won. That María Corina Machado, a Venezuelan politician who had run against Maduro, had won.
Orange man is sure to be whining about this one & thinking that maybe he’ll start a war with someone over this. After all, not only is she a woman, she’s Venezuelan.

Next Protest: No Kings
The next big protest is NO KINGS October 18. My sense is that it will be larger than the No Kings protest on June 14 – remember that date? Trump’s 79th birthday, tanks in the streets of D.C. to celebrate, photo ops?.Gross.
This one is well publicized, planned, and more than 4 months later. & look where we are! ICE in blue cities, masked SS agents breaking into apartments buildings in Chicago in the middle of the night, government shutdown because the republicans want millions of Americans to lose their health care.
Got a parent or sibling or other loved one on dialysis? Oops, so sorry. No longer covered by anyone. It’s that kind of annihilation of health care that spells, well, death.
So, once we were supposedly the greatest country on the planet and now we’re basically a laughing stock of bullshit spewed from a white house that is destroying democracy. But for right now – this second, this breath – we have the 1st amendment right to speak our truth. To protest!
So find the NO KINGS days protest closest to where you live and get out there on October 18!
Got Your Med Bed yet?
This may be trump’s craziest thing yet: the med bed that cures everything. If you lost a limb, this bed restores it. If you have cancer, the med bed cures it. This miraculous med bed also reverses aging. Even wikipedia has an entry.
It sounds like a wish bed for a 79-year-old man clearly en route to losing his mind completely.
How come the media doesn’t talk about trump’s obvious dementia?
