That Orange Face

That orange face. It stares out at you from your computer screen, TV screen, phone screen. But regardless of where you see it, that orange face is the symbol of a dictatorship that is taking hold in this country.

It often strikes me that orange man’s true archetype is that of a Big Fat Daddy, whose main goal is doing things that hurt or kill multitudes of people. With trump’s gutting of the CDC, Medicaid, money for research of all kinds, the destruction of the Department of Education, the banning of books, and every other horror show he has perpetrated, at every level of American life, it certainly looks like the administration’s goal is multi-faceted.

Kill off Americans. Only the strong will survive. Eugenics?

Make sure that Americans are ill-informed and uneducated so they are easier to dupe and brainwash.

Diminish the American quality of life so they’ll embrace whatever idiotic thing trump presents.

Make them pay more taxes than billionaires.

Make women have babies they don’t want or can’t afford because the Repugs, of course, are the only ones who respect life. Ha!

Issue fake statistics on crime rates in cities so trump’s private little army of ICE agents can sweep in and grab anyone who isn’t white and deport them.

Make christianity the official religion in this country. & if you aren’t christian, you’re suspect of…well, something.

Make it acceptable for Americans to see the military on the streets in their cities and towns.

Trash the constitution piece by piece, bit by bit, and revel in every decision the supreme court hands down in trump’s favor that cements his position as dictator.

One of the next horror shows is likely to be the supremes overturning gay marriage just as they did abortion.

Control colleges and universities so the government can dictate what is taught and to whom – i.e., rewrite historical facts about slavery, religion, voting rights…..

Take down trump’s personal enemies by charging them without evidence for some concocted crime

In other words the takeover is deliberate, insidious, and as malignant as the inside of trump’s warped mind.

If you’re okay with all this, well, good luck & too bad for your compromised soul.

If you’re incensed,  then get out and protest peacefully in huge numbers, in the millions. Because otherwise they are going to come for our first amendment rights, for the press, and democracy is done.

We the People: A Premonition

The novel will be released tomorrow, on August 23. This book was great fun to work on! Russell, a Jungian psychiatrist, has vision!

What if AI could show us the future—and what if that future was our extinction?

We the People: A Premonition is a gripping political thriller that explores the terrifying convergence of autocracy and climate collapse. Set in a not-so-distant America ruled by a fascist regime, the novel follows three unlikely heroes brought together by one truth: if they don’t act, the future is lost.

Luna Ochoa, a former FBI analyst turned underground investigator works for Leo Montoya, a reclusive millionaire funding a network tracking the government’s abuses. When the advance AI they created suddenly starts making predictions of humanity’s collapse—nuclear war, ecological annihilation, and widespread oppression—the danger becomes existential.

Enter Jake Kessler, a Pulitzer-winning journalist silenced for exposing political corruption. After crossing paths with Luna, he becomes entangled in a movement bigger than any of them imagined. Together they enter a race against time—not just to survive, but to reclaim the future.

The novel asks the question at the heart of today’s global crisis: Can we still choose a different path? Drawing on the ancient Athenian model and powered by modern technology, their vision is to build a new system where people participate in governance directly—every voice heard, every idea tested. It’s dangerous. Revolutionary. And it may be our last chance to avoid extinction.

With cinematic pacing, unforgettable characters, and razor-sharp political insight, We the People is not just a warning—it’s a call to action. It reminds us that democracy is not a guarantee. It’s a choice. And the most important character in this story is us.

On Amazon, Kindle: $6.99, print: $9.99

Gavin Newsom & ole trump

Since trump became prez, I’ve been besieged by emails form various democratic factions, with news that nearly always include a request for $. I’m happy  to sign petitions to protest, but I can’t afford to give $ to every democratic organization that requests it. I think this is where dems fall short in fighting trump. They need a platform, an agenda that benefits people.  It’s not enough to ask for donations. I think this is why I was so taken back with the way Gavin Newsom is fighting back by countering with a redistricting vote in California. Where are the governors of the other blue states?

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Minnesota
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Washington

Newsom, as governor of the largest and most lucrative state in this country, definitely has a mouthpiece. Start with his blueprint. Forget courtesy and decorum. Be outspoken, state your premise. & from there, maybe the dems could come up with a message that really resonates with the majority of Americans!

Tax the billionaires. That alone could probably provide real universal health care for all Americans. How come we’re the only country among  the industrialized countries in the world that doesn’t have universal health care? Oh,  well, that’s easy: greed.

I googled the cost of having a baby in this country versus that of other countries with universal health care.  Google’s AI replied:

“Having a baby in the US is significantly more expensive  than in countries with universal healthcare systems. While the average cost of childbirth in the US, including prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum care, can reach $18,865, with potential complications driving costs much higher, countries with universal healthcare often have much lower or even zero out-of-pocket costs for childbirth.”

Okay, what about stuff like dentistry? I was recently quoted $3400 for the replacement of a crown that a previous dentist had screwed up by grinding the tooth down so low that the crown he provided kept falling out. I can have this same procedure done in Mexico, at a reputable dentist that other American friends have used, for about $500. Even with airfare, it’s less expensive.

What about surgeries? Well, let’s see. I have arthritis in one of my ankles. Osteoarthritis. My orthopedic doesn’t do ankle replacements. He says MIT does.  He only does ankle fusion. Regardless, here’s what Google says:

The cost of ankle surgery varies significantly between the US and other countries. In the U.S. ankle arthroscopy can cost over $10,000 while in Mexico it may range from $3000- $7000.  Ankle replacement surgery in the US can range from $14,730 to $40,507, with the national average around $23,936. Other countries like Poland and Turkey offer ankle replacement surgery for significantly lower costs, around $4,500-$5,000 and $4,000-$15,000 respectively, according to Bookimed.

Anyway, you get the idea.Physicians should be paid, of course,  but what’s with the incredible disparity? Obama had great intentions with ObamaCare IF you can qualify. But it  should be a RIGHT. Like free speech.

Expand Medicare, democrats. Expand your basics in every area that can make peoples’ lives better, more productive & affordable. Starting with true universal health care would be a fantastic STEP 2 AFTER you blue governors declare your states to be sovereign, as Newsom has done.

And oh, while you’re looking around, trump’s attempt to distract from the Epstein stuff with the Putin meeting was a fawning, embarrassing display from him. Putin held the cards, knew it, and played them, making trump look like a drooling sycophant.

Psst, Dorian….episode 2

“How am I doing?” trump asks his reflection in the floor-length mirror.  “Pretty cool what I’ve ordered into D.C., right? That crime ridden city corrupted by democrats. Hey, reflection, you hearin’ me?”

“Hearin’ you, donald. Kinda a stupid thing to do, actually. You think you’re going to do this in other blue state cities, huh? D.C. isn’t quite like a stage. No political reps, no governor. You’re gonna be blocked. The people aren’t giving up their freedoms just because you want to be big boy on the global block.”

Orange man gets pissed off that his reflection is talking like this to him. It’s supposed to be…you know, compliant. Agreeable.  “Hey, I can make you irrelevant. I can make you disappear.I can…”

“Oh, be careful.” His reflection shakes a finger at him. “That’s frivolous, don. If you make me irrelevant or make me disappear, then so do you.”

“You disappeared before and hey, I’m still here!”

“Just for my amusement, dude.”

A persistent knocking at the door interrupts them and orange man’s secret service agent rushes in. “Sir…” His eyes dart to the mirror, horror seizes his face, and he spins around and flees.

Orange man looks back at the mirror:

The next day, he instructs one of his minions to cover the mirror, remove it, smash it to smithereens.
