UPDATE: FlashForward and 137

In the September 27 post, we discussed the new ABC series, FlashForward and the number 137. The premise of the series is that for 137 seconds, everyone on the planet blacks out and has a vision of their lives six months in the future. Since 137 has such intriguing connotations (covered in a previous post), we decided to keep watching the series.

In the third episode, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation into what actually happened during the FlashForward, follows a lead to Germany, where an incarcerated Nazi war criminal claims he knows why everyone blacked out for 137 seconds. He proceeds to scribble the word Kaballah, and illustrates that in Gematria, a Jewish numerology system, the word equals 137.

Whether the writers of the show take this any farther – like into the number as the DNA of light, as Wolfgang Pauli’s death number, remains to be seen!

Episode four of Fast Forward was pretty good as we speculate whether or not the future is fixed, or some future visions won't happen.

I like Peter Coyote as president, but once again he's been playing the role of evil antagonist. Hard to like a president who orders an assassination of a former friend halfway through the episode.

Maybe anon is referring to another discrepancy between the book & the TV series. In the book, the visions of the future take place several decades in the future. In the TV series – it'[s six months in the future.

  3. GYPSYWOMAN says:

anon, i know better, but – six months?

  4. Anonymous says:

Maybe in sixth months from now…

  5. GYPSYWOMAN says:

OMG – this could be an entire stand-up comedy routine by itself!!!

  6. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

    ok, sorry I asked.

Hi Lyn – you've exposed Dan Brown's pseudonym!

  9. Lyn says:

More to it than is dreamed of in our philosophy..(thanks Mr. Shakespeare)
Right here and now, correct. Just Buddha dreaming this great movie..hello Maya, thanks for all the puzzles and fun..
I get the feeling that Toumai is really Dan Brown…

  10. Trish and Rob MacGregor says:

Toumai, catching the ball and tossing it: we'd better catch it, Gypsy! & yes, Thursday is flashforward night

  11. GYPSYWOMAN says:

uh, toumai – in answer to your question, the reason you always have to be the one to do that is simple: none of the rest of us poor mortals can!!! 🙂 dear heavens! trish saying that your mind is like a maze is an UNDERstatement, lady! i mean, i can't even keep up with your comments most of the time! :)))

about your comment of the belief of hidden messages in religious texts, there have been a number of absolutely fascinating shows aired on that very subject!

and back to 137 – gee, isn't that on tonight? i've not been able to grab an entire episode yet! and don't have the means with which to record it! but can't wait to see if they do follow up with the dna path or not!

    neat post!

I think the show is probably better than the book, @ least what I've read of it so far. Halfway thru the book, some stuff happen with the characters that breaks down the credibility for me. The show, so far, has us hooked.

  13. Nancy says:

We are watching this show, too. I had no idea it had so many meanings.
