Photo is from Nazi Germany, September 1937. Is this where we are headed as a country? Perhaps two murders have altered this trajectory.
Renie Good and Alex Pretti , murdered by trump’s ICE agents, have galvanized a powerful movement. These aren’t just protests, but Americans in Minnesota standing up to trump’s corrupt administration day and night, 24/7, in sub-zero temps. They’re peaceful. So were Renie and Alex. The trump admin, of course, immediately lied and called both people domestic terrorists who threatened the ICE agents. Fortunately, there’s video taken by bystanders that tells what actually transpired.
ICE agents are masked, heavily armed, and now the government claims they have the right barge into homes without warrants. In other words, they are trump’s Gestapo, no different than Hitler’s thugs.
My hope is that the events in Minneapolis wake up diehard trump supporters. But if they aren’t awake yet, then they may be as soulless as trump and the rest of his sycophants.
Stay tuned…

We’re having trouble with the audio forecast, so the written is in the masthead, under February 2026.

Collapse. Most of us know how to define that word. But just as a reminder, here’s the dictionary definition: “an instance of a structure falling down or in.’The collapse of a railroad bridge.'”
But for us, it might be the beginning of the collapse of the U.S. & democracy.
Are the homicides by ICE agents of 37-year old Renee Good and today the homicide of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, 37, the proof that even diehard trump supporters need to get it about trump and his admin? About their actual agenda? Their failed promises?
Many years back, around 1958, my dad woke up my sister and I and told us we needed to see history as it was happening. Caracas, Venezuela. The neighborhood of Las Mercedes. Mary and I hurried out onto the front porch and watched a parade of headlights speeding down the autopista – freeway- that ran down through the mountains to the coast.
The headlights were part of the dictator’s entourage, en route to flee the country after he’d embezzled $13 million from the country’s treasury. Perez Jimenez ended up living out some of the rest of his life in a quiet luxury on on Miami Beach. But…ended up in Franco’s right-wing Spain. Here’s the Wikipedia background.
So as I was reading through the Wikipedia stuff, I wondered how such an entry might one day read about the era of trump’s 2nd term, this first year. L.A., Chicago, Minneapolis…the No Kings protests, the dismantling of Medicaid, SNAP, NATO…. trump’s hunger to own Greenland, to claim Canada, to seize Venezuela’s oil…
I imagine there will be endless words written about how a convicted felon became prez….about how the supreme court granted him immunity for anything he does in his official capacity as prez… and how the republican congress stood by, so spineless and terrified of losing their jobs, that they abdicated congressional power to the orange monster. So spineless, in fact, that when the trump admin lied so blatantly about these two murders none of the repugs spoke out.
IF this is the beginning of the collapse, the horrors will continue to multiply. My city or yours may be invaded next by ICE and Mr. Deal Maker (ha!) will use the Insurrection Act to cancel the midterm elections and declare himself prez for a 3rd term.Hopefully, we the people will continue to rise up, protest, & taking over the U.S. will prove so difficult for trump that his obesity and other health issues will do him in before he accomplishes his goal.
But, as several friends point out, in the rubble trump would leave behind, we would get vance. Then we’re in the same place venezuela is now – Maduro the dictator is gone, but his corrupt cabinet is still there.
So then what? Civil War?
World war because we have alienated all of our allies?
I want to believe that good is more powerful than evil, that we the people who value the constitution, the bill of rights, and everything else the U.S once represented, will be vindicated. Will win.
If you aren’t familiar with the Meidas Touch, do yourself a favor and take a listen. There are numerous you tube videos, half a dozen or more a day, that people who still support trump should definitely watch.
It was on one of these videos where Meidas Touch played clips of trump’s secretary of agriculture, Brooke Leslie Rollins. She said that if Americans followed the recommended nutritional guidelines they should be able to have three square meals a day – and oh! a snack- for 15 bucks and change total. For a day.
Yeah? In what universe, lady?
This absurd comment tells you several things: she doesn’t shop personally for groceries, she doesn’t have any idea how most middle class Americans live, she lives in the trumpie universe where an orange, demented man thinks he’s king. And daily, this orange king tries to convince you to believe HIS version of events – and not what you see with your own eyes.
J6 was NOT a peaceful protest. We watched hours of it on live TV. The ICE agent in Minneapolis who shot the 37-yeear-old mom of three in the face was NOT hit by her car. He murdered her. As for Rollins, well, let’s see you and your family survive on three meals a day – and a snack! – for 15 bucks and change!

Do you still support this monster? & if so, WHY?
Is he doing anything that supports why you voted for him? The border situation? The economy? The price of eggs? Do you enjoy seeing ICE agents wrestling American citizens to the ground and hauling them off for – well, whatever to wherever? Because they can?
This is America’s versions of Hitler’s SS & if you don’t believe that, read the history about Hitler. About dictators. & then take a deep, honest look at yourself.
If you’re a woman who voted for trump, what is it about him that drew you to him? Is there a twisted element inside you that enjoys seeing this kind of travesty, this kind of government seizure of communities? Cities? If you figure you’re safe because you’re white or a christian, think again. If trump has any connection to a christian religion, it’s as the anti-christ. Think about Renee Good.Watch that video of her murder. She didn’t ram her car into the killer. She didn’t do what he demanded, he had the gun, so he shot her. In the face.
If you’re a man who voted for trump, the same questions apply. What is it that you see in him even now that speaks to you? Does he make you feel more powerful? To feel vindicated in some way? Does he trigger something inside you that says it’s okay to be cruel, inhumane, power hungry and in control of women around you? Your mother, wife, partner, daughter? Is there a racist inside of you who recoils at the sight of someone whose skin isn’t the same bone white as yours?
But really, the gender issue isn’t the broader point. The real issue is about what kind of person you are, what you value, what you believe is right or wrong. It’s about who you are in the deeper pockets of your being. & if, after a year of orange man’s second term, you still support him, then find a therapist.
But even a therapist probably can’t help you recover your lost soul.

The newest Mira Morales book, Silent Thunder, is released on January 20. It’s the sequel to White Crows and is the 7th book in a series.
Psychic Mira was actually born with The Hanged Man, initially published by Kensington Books, when my terrific editor, Kate Duffy, was still alive. It took place in Fort Lauderdale & I eventually moved Mira and the characters to the fictional island of Tango Key.
That location was created with the novel Tango Key, written by my pseudonym Alison Drake. My first editor at Ballantine Books, Chris Cox, suggested the pseudonym because back then, mysteries by men were outselling mysteries by women. Also, Tango Key featured different characters than those I’d been writing for Ballantine, Quin & McCleary.
Chris became a good friend over the 12 years I was at Ballantine. He and my agent, Diane Cleaver, accompanied Rob & me on the Amazon trips we conducted for writers, sponsored by Avianca Airlines.I still remember the day he called to tell me his partner, Bill, had been diagnosed with AIDS and had moved in with his parents in Minneapolis who were taking care of him. His voice cracked with emotion. We both knew it meant he might also die of AIDS.
Not long afterward, he did. Rob & I attended the funeral in New York. Chris’s friend, Susan Sarandon, gave the opening. By the time I went up to speak, I could barely keep back the tears. Everyone loved Chris. That’s the kind of person he was. Maybe a year later, agent Diane sold The Hanged Man to Kate Duffy at Kensington Books. I was truly fortunate to have both of these individuals as editors.
At some point during these years, Diane also passed away. The woman who had been her partner for years left her for another woman and I still believe she died of a broken heart. The loss of Diane was the loss of an integral part of my creative life. She was my first agent, the woman who took a chance on me even after my first 5 novels were rejected and the 6th novel, In Shadow, was rejected 25 times.
After Diane died, a friend recommended that I approach Al Zuckerman at Writers House. He was my agent for nearly 25 years. A Virgo, like Chris Cox. Precise, on top of things, a real master at what he did. He represented Ken Follet, Nora Roberts, BIG writers who left me humbled and awed. Al sold nearly everything I wrote. He and his wife, Claire, invited us to stay at their home on Sugarloaf Key several times, where some of our best family memories were created. Given the fact that I outlived my first agent and two subsequent editors, I was always afraid I would outlive Al, too. But he retired during Covid and it changed the trajectory of my publishing career. I definitely miss him.
The same writer friend, Ed Gorman, who recommend Al, also recommended I approach David Wilson at Crossroad Books about my backlist titles – i.e., books that had gone out of print. So I did. I think this was in 2011, so 15 years ago. Crossroad has since published a number my original books, including the Mira books. He and his business partner, David Dodd, are terrific people and the best with whom to work.
I hadn’t intended to write all this. But it illustrates, I think, the vagaries of writing and publishing. Amazon opened an entire new world for writers. Now you don’t have to go the traditional route to publish what you write, There are drawbacks and benefits. But that’s for another post!
Hope you enjoy Mira’s new journey!

Charlie Hall joins The Mystical Underground to share how a lifetime of psychic sensitivity, haunted places, and uncanny synchronicities have shaped her path as a medium, musician, and rising paranormal filmmaker.

Before the election, I heard various reasons from people I know for why they were voting for trump: the economy, the situation at the border, he’ll lower the cost of living, he’s tough, he’ll get rid of waste…
And now that we’re about a year into his disastrous presidency, it’s obvious that NONE of what trump promised his diehard followers has been delivered. First, trump brought the tariffs and ICE, which certainly appears to be fashioned after Hitler’s SS. And the cost of living has soared. People are losing their health care coverage. And trump isn’t tough, that’s laughable. He’s the archetype of the playground bully from middle school. But worse.
He invaded Venezuela and abducted Maduro, their dictator. Glad Maduro is gone. But the rest of the regime is still there, stifling dissent and sending out their military to disappear people. And now he’s declaring himself acting president of Venezuela. Huh? He can’t even govern this country. He’s like the cry baby in the photo, trying to get even with anyone who criticized him.
What’s really baffling to me is his support from people who call themselves Christians. Why would anyone, much less a Christian, support a convicted felon? One of pedophile Epstein’s buddies? Trump doesn’t give a shit about Christianity. He has said he’s worried about what will happen to him when he dies. But hey dude, it’s probably a little late to worry about your soul since you seem to have been soulless for most of your life.
And all of this makes me wonder if this orange monster is our karma for slavery, the internment of the Japanese, the invasion of sovereign countries…well, the list of this country’s horrors is long and deeply tragic. So are Americans waking up to what’s going on?
Perhaps. Recent protests- which Rachel Maddow has covered – provide hope.
The murder of Renee Nicole Good may be the trigger. Mom of three, U.S. citizen. But trump and his sycophants lied, of course about the events. They called her a domestic terrorist and claim she tried to run over the ICE agent who shot her and acted in self-defense.They want you to believe what they say and dismiss what you saw on the videos.
That’s how fascist regimes and dictatorships work. Don’t believe your own eyes.
So we the people have a clear choice: do we believe the lies of a pathological liar? Or do we believe what we see with our own eyes and get out there and protest this regime and demand trump’s impeachment or that he be removed through the 25th amendment?
