Full Moon in Libra and Beyond…and trump

Full moons are about completions, the harvest, the illumination of some facet of your life. Full moons often bring news, too. On March 31, the full moon at 10 degrees Libra should be a beauty for air signs – Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius and for fire signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius – if you adhere to a few simple guidelines.  Here’s why:

There are some challenging aspects from Saturn (structure, authority, government, responsibilities, discipline) and from Mars (physicality, sexuality, ambition, action) which are both in Capricorn at 8 and 7 degrees respectively. The angle these two planets make to the moon are called squares – 90 degrees with a 5 degree leeway on either side. Also, the moon is opposed to Mercury (communication) at 12 degrees Aries, which is still retrograde.

Squares cause friction, oppositions involve conflict and tension. So, my advice is to think before you speak, particularly if you’re irritated or angry. Don’t rush to get anything done or to be somewhere on time. If you’re late for work or an appointment, keep to the speed limit. With Mars squaring this moon, the possibility for a speeding ticket is enhanced. If you have authoritarian despots in your life (Saturn) avoid conflict by simply removing yourself from the situation.

As I was writing this, I wondered how this full moon would impact trump’s chart.

Transiting Saturn is in his 5th house, the outer circle at 8 Capricorn, and is directly opposed to his natal Mercury (communication) in the 11th house, inner wheel, at 8 Cancer. Since Saturn represents discipline, something he lacks, he’s going to be fighting his inner demons on or around the time of the this full moon, anxious to tweet something that his advisors advise against. Because this is an opposition, the pressure within him will be cranked to the point where he may not be able to hold back.

However, I think the real shit show will begin around May 15, when Uranus – the planet of sudden, unforeseen surprises – enters Taurus. Right now, you can see Uranus at 27 Aries, moving through Trump’s 9th house along with Venus at 00 Taurus. Uranus is never subtle. In March 2011 when Uranus (rules earthquakes) entered Aries (the warrior), there was a 9.0 quake in Japan that resulted in a tsunami and the meltdown of Fukushima. The quake on May 15 may be of a different sort. The 9th house represents, among other things, the law and lawyers. Could this transit possibly result in legal action against trump in the Mueller investigation? Or from one of the lawsuits that Stormy Daniels has filed against him?

Uranus rules his natal 6th house of daily health and work. Another possible ramification of this transit is a sudden disruption in his daily life (which has become business as usual from the guy who says he likes chaos) or a sudden health event- heart attack, stroke. Because of a retrograde – where planets appear to be moving backward relative to the earth – Uranus moves back into Aries the day after the mid-term elections. It then enters Taurus again on March 10, 2019 and remains there for 7 years.

However all this shakes out for trump and the rest of us, one thing we can expect is the unexpected.

A hug or a hump?’

The relationship that has developed between Noah and Nigel is interesting. There’s something very human in this hug, Nigel’s legs holding and surrounding Noah’s upper body like this, the human equivalent of, Oh wow, you’re my dude, forevermore!

But Nigel hasn’t been fixed yet. Several vets have cautioned against it until Nigel is a year old. New research suggests that Golden Retrievers fixed before a year are more prone to cancer. So we’ve been waiting. But Nigel is now 9 months old and if this is a hump rather than a hug, then it’s time, dude, I’m sorry, but it’s time.

Still… there’s something in this photo that suggests, well, You’re my bro, dude. You’ve been showing me the ropes.  You’re my mentor. I love ya.

A Crushing Synchronicity

We’ve often noted that when shocking tragic events occur, there are related synchronicities and premonitions. That was again the case with the collapse on March 15 of a pedestrian bridge on the campus of Florida International University in Miami. One hundred and fifty tons of steel and concrete crashed down on several vehicles killing six people. Two of the vehicles were so badly crushed that the cars had to be towed away with the bodies still inside.

In this instance, the collapse triggered memories of premonitions related to another bridge tragedy that was oddly related to this new construction disaster.

Within hours of the collapse, I (Rob) received two emails from friends in Minneapolis who both noted that the bridge designer was the same one that had designed the new 35W bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis that replaced the bridge that collapsed in 2007 killing thirteen. One of my correspondents, Barbara, an architect, said that from watching the video of the collapse, it appeared to be a construction problem, not a design issue.

Then, she went on to tell me about premonitions relating to the earlier collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis. “A few days before the incident, my boss told me his wife told him she had a strong premonition there was a problem with the (35W) bridge, and oddly I’d had a jarring dream of the collapse myself,” she wrote.

“In the dream I am looking toward the bridge but I’m captivated by a large building close up. Later I understood it was there to block my view.

“This dream building is clad in black glass and behind that I can very faintly see its skeleton structure. I recognized the structural system—it is used often in bridges. (But it is upside down….if it were a bridge.)

“As I wrote this into my dream journal, this famous line pops into my mind, ‘Now you see as through a glass darkly, but then you shall understand.’

“That dream internally hung around me and dogged me ….. until the bridge collapsed. Then all it’s metaphorical elements revealed themselves. That mysterious dream, sadly, made perfect sense.”

Barbara has since wondered why she had that dream, and why was the insight into it blocked until shortly after the collapse?

She also noted something significant that might provide an answer to her questions about the dream. “About 6 weeks prior to its collapse, I experienced something very weird on that bridge. As I drove onto it (and I rarely drive in that area), I almost immediately began feeling a lot of abnormal movement. I told myself, call MnDOT and report this. Then I began ruminating about calculations used in design—they’re always way past minimum. I talked myself out of calling.”

To this day, she regrets not having acted on her hunch after driving over the bridge, and she even feels guilty about it. And maybe with good reason. She added: “A later news report said that the bolts at the south end of the bridge (where I drove onto it) were subsequently found to have failed. They were not caught in inspections.”

Barbara’s dreaming self might’ve been warning her about what was to come. Considering her unwillingness to report her troubling thoughts, the black-clad building symbolically blocked her view of what was to come. In essence, the dream was telling her she was unwilling to look closely at her concerns about the bridge.

Mercury Retro Alert!

Well, here we go again. Mercury in Aries turns retrograde today and travels back through that sign until it turns direct on April 15. The last retro we had was in December 2017 and the next one is in late July.

Mercury rules communication, travel, electronics, anything with moving parts. It rules both Gemini and Virgo. During these retro periods, my advice consists of a list of DO NOTs and AVOIDs:

Don’t make travel plans. But if you happen to be traveling, there may be sudden changes in your itinerary. Last year when we went to Cuba, we bought our tickets during a Mercury retro and the only snafu concerned our dogs.

Don’t buy appliances, electronics, or a car. I’ve done all three during retros and usually regretted it.

Don’t sign contracts unless you don’t mind revisiting the terms later on. We did sign an astrology contract during a retro and things were screwed up until that contract was done.

Don’t move unless you can embrace chaos!

Double check the time for all your appointments.

Communicate as clearly as possible with everyone. The potential for miscommunication is enhanced.

Don’t start new projects. It’s best to review, revise, and reconsider.

And in the event that you think Mercury retrogrades are just astrological hype, keep this story in mind. On November 7, 2000, Mercury had been retrograde since mid-October – first in Scorpio, then it slipped back into Libra and at 9:20 p.m., it turned direct in that sign. When Mercury stations – which means it’s about to turn retrograde or direct – the potential for miscommunication is strong. But for that date, the station caused bedlam because it was election day in the U.S.

Astrologers were predicting chaos and, sure enough, at 7:49 p.m., NBC decided they had enough data from exit polls in Florida and Tom Brokaw called the state for Al Gore. With Florida’s 25 electoral votes, it meant he had won the election.

However, shortly after 10 p.m. – less than an hour after Mercury had turned direct – Brokaw backtracked and said that George W. Bush had won the state and the election. We all know what ensued after that – the endless dispute over the chads on Palm Beach County’s ballot and the eventual decision by the Supreme Court that Bush was the 43rd president of the U.S.

10:10 Cluster

I recently drove to Orlando to spend some time with Megan and within the space of about 12 hours, experienced a number cluster of 10:10.

The first one happened at my usual stop on the turnpike when I make this drive. At the Fort Pierce exit there’s a truck stop with inexpensive gas, clean restrooms, and a selection of fresh sandwiches, Greek yogurt, and containers of fresh fruit. So I bought a bottled water and some stuff to eat on the way. The bill came to $10.10. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep the receipt. I didn’t know at the time that it might be the beginning of a cluster. But I did remark to the cashier that maybe I should play those numbers in the lottery and she laughed and agreed.

So I got back into my car and glanced at my navigator screen before I backed out to make sure no one was behind me. I noticed the time on the screen: 10:10. This was the day after the time change and it should have read 11:10. I hadn’t adjusted the clock for daylight saving. I laughed and thought, Okay, there’s going to be a third. I made a mental note to change the time when I got to Megan’s – then forgot to do so.

That evening, Megan and I went to see a movie with a couple of friends. It was supposed to be a horror film, but amounted to little more than a slasher movie and the only thing that was scary about it was how bad it was. Afterward, we rode the elevator up to the parking garage where we’d left the car and as I slipped behind the wheel, the clock on the navigator read 10:10.

So, a cluster of 3. I’ve never experienced a cluster with these particular numbers before. I poked around on the internet for possible hints. One of the most interesting is that 10:10 is the name of a charity in London that, according to Wikipedia, enables people “to take practical action on climate change, and combines these local actions to inspire a more ambitious approach to the issue at every level of society.”

From a numerology site:  The number 10 is the only Karmic number that indicates a release of karma. A new door opening. A clean slate.  A rebirth.

Another website  relates the number to angels, that I’m awakening to my spiritual self, that it means everything is working out for my highest good, that I’m ready to take action. The last two parts of that feel like the right track. But, bottom line, I haven’t found the meaning that fully resounds yet. I suspect I’ll know more when an event, situation or insight occurs that illuminates the cluster.

A postscript. Less than a week later, I bought some stuff at our local Barnes & Noble:

 I don’t know if this is the beginning of a cluster, but figured I should keep and document the receipt just in case. In between, my Canadian blogging friend Judi Hertling sent me some remarkable number synchros she has recorded over the past 2-3 years. That’s  a post for another day and it’s mind-blowing.

Spider Woman Speaks!

Lauren Raine is an artist who lives in Tucson and her work is indescribably beautiful. It focuses on the Native American archetype of Spider Woman. She blogs about her work, archetypes, myth, and synchronicity. The image of hands at the top of the post is an example of her exquisite art.

As she describes on her website:

“Because I live in the Southwest, I’ve been inspired by the presence of the  native American Creatrix,  Spider Woman. I believe this ancient and ubiquitous archetype has important meaning for our time, and so I keep pursuing the threads of the Spider Woman.     In 2007  I was awarded a fellowship with the Alden Dow Creativity Center at Northwood University to develop “Hands of the Spider Woman” as well as a grant from the Puffin Foundation, and in  2009 I further developed the project as resident artist at the Henry Luce III Center for the Arts  in Washington, D.C.   The weaving continues.”

The other day, I received an email from Lauren about a synchronicity she experienced. She’s preparing for her presentation for a conference on Women and Mythology in Las Vegas.   Her subject is “Spider Woman:  A Myth for our time.”  So while preparing, she received an email from a friend in NY she hasn’t been in touch with for several years. The email included this image, by French artist Odilon Redon.

It’s called The Spider, was created in 1902. See the human face? This anthropomorphism embodies Symbolism, a movement that celebrated the imaginative and the literary. It was done in charcoal.

As Lauren says, it’s “A nice touch from  Spider Woman! I guess I see sometimes synchros as demonstrating how we are all connected in ways that we don’t realize….”

New Moon in Pisces

New moons are that time of month when the universe usually brings something to celebrate.   New opportunities and relationships, new insights, emotions, and ideas. Doors open and, if we’re smart and adventurous, we walk through them.

Tomorrow’s new moon at 26 degrees Pisces (11th and 12th houses) should be a beauty. This water sign is all about imagination, emotions, intuition, the personal unconscious, the arts, the paranormal. Neptune, which rules the sign, is also in this configuration, at 14 degrees Pisces. That’s a bit wide for a conjunction, but Neptune is happy in the sign it rules and functions well here.

What I love most is that Jupiter, the planet of expansion and luck, the sugar daddy of the zodiac, is at 23 degrees Scorpio and trines the new moon. A trine is a beneficial angle of 120 degrees (or 4 houses away) that enhances the energy. Jupiter has the new moon’s back and it doesn’t get much better than that.

Those of you born between March 11-20 will feel the effects of this new moon strongly. But anyone with a sun, moon, or ascendant in Pisces or a natal planet between 20 and 28 degrees of a water sign – Scorpio and Cancer – will embrace this new moon. Earth signs Capricorn and Taurus will find plenty to celebrate as well. Virgos born in the latter days of that sign – September 14-21 – may initially experience some tension, but Jupiter sweeps in, puts things on course, then drops some delicious stuff at your doorstep.

Air and fire signs – Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius – have Pisces somewhere in their charts. The areas that house represents will experience new opportunities, too. If you know your time of birth, go here to get a free copy of your natal chart.

On that chart, look at the degree of the cusp on the house that is home to Pisces. If the cusp is 26 degrees or more, than the new moon falls in that house. If it’s less, then it falls in the house before.

The Curse of a Lost City

“Deep in Honduras, in a region called La Mosquitia, lie some of the last unexplored places on earth.” That’s the first line of a non-fiction book, The Lost City of the Monkey God. It’s written by Douglas Preston, who is best known for his thrillers co-authored with Lincoln Child. Preston has also written several other non-fiction books, including The Monster of Florence.

Mosquitia covers 32,000 square miles of mostly dense jungle and is considered one of the most dangerous places in the world to travel. It’s also the home of a fascinating legend of a lost city called Ciudad Blanca or the “White City,” which is sometimes referred to as the Lost City of the Monkey God. The legend of a magnificent city, built by an unknown civilization, includes a curse. Those who enter the city and taste its “forbidden fruit” will be struck down, and possibly that is one reason that has kept treasure hunters from finding the ruins.

In 2015, Preston joined a team of archaeologists and other scientists to explore a site that had been discovered through satellite images and lidar, a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to detect hidden structures. Amazingly,  two lost cities were found in a hidden valley in Mosquitia, both built by an unknown culture that lived near and traded with the Mayan civilization to the north. Preston and the others arrived by helicopter to spend a week exploring the hidden ruins that were buried in a pristine rain forest untouched by humans for hundreds of years.

Two thirds of the book is a fascinating description of the adventure and the discovery of a cache of astonishing artifacts that is combined with tales of previous attempts to find the White City. The rest of the book is about what happened after the expedition. That’s when the ‘curse’ took effect and half of the members of the expedition, including Preston came away with a deadly disease with no cure called leishmaniasis. There are three strains of leish, the worst being one that can eat away at a person’s lips and nose and  palate ultimately causing the face to collapse if the disease goes untreated. Preston and the expedition were infected with this most serious strain.

Never heard of leishmania? Neither had I. This disease, though almost unknown in the western world, has been around for centuries, predominantly in the Third World. Its transmitted to humans by a sand flea that has bitten an infected rodent or other animal. The reason no cure has been found is that nearly all of those infected are poor. In other words, there’s no money to be made in a cure. Fortunately, there are treatments to slow the progress of the disease and send it into remission. That is what happened to Preston. He is cured, but uncertain whether or not the nasty lesion on his arm will reappear. It’s a continuing story.

Howling at the Moon

In our book 7 Secrets of Synchronicity, the fourth secret is The Creative: that creativity lies at the heart of synchronicity.

Creativity is like a wolf, howling at the moon. It surges up from somewhere deep within, you throw your head back, and this incredible sound rushes out into the world, transforming everything in its path.

It’s usually defined by four words that begin with “i:” imagination, inventiveness, inspiration, ingenuity. Synchronicity is rarely mentioned. And yet, creativity and synchronicity are like twins conjoined at the hip. They share organs, skin, blood, the life force. They complement and nurture each other. In fact, without meaningful coincidence, our creative endeavors often fall flat. We’re able to take an idea just so far and can’t make that final leap into something larger than ourselves that speaks to the human collective.

Creativity is the way your consciousness interacts with your physical environment to usher something new into the world. It’s a way of being, a lifestyle, a state of mind. It’s at work in every facet of your waking, conscious life and hums along while you sleep and dream. It’s your companion when you travel, when you undertake something new, when you fall in love. It’s the force behind everything you do.

Synchronicity is a jolt of energy that springs from a source underlying our daily world of cause and effect. When we’re in the midst of creative endeavors, startling and unlikely coincidences can occur with such frequency that our lives shift into a higher vibrational level where creative breakthroughs occur. When creativity and synchronicity are combined, your life becomes a journey toward greater happiness and profound emotional and spiritual fulfillment.

But what does it mean, really, to be creative? It’s not just writing or painting or taking photos or inventing a new way to power cars.  Creativity is also expressed by the small child when she discovers that her legs actually have a function and eagerly crawls around exploring the boundaries of her world.

It finds expression in a grandmother who creates elaborate collages from photos in the family album, or in the computer programmer who designs new software or a new app. The teacher who triggers excitement and curiosity in his students is just as creative as the shaman who makes it rain, the parent who finds a new way to communicate with a child, or as the adventurer who climbs Kilimanjaro just for the experience of doing so.

In Western society, we tend to believe that creativity is the exclusive domain of the Lennons, Spielbergs, Rowlings, Kings, Picassos, Streeps, Oprahs, and Harrison Fords of the world. We forget that we are all born creative, that if it weren’t for creativity, we would still be living in caves. At every step in our creative expression, synchronicity is there to guide us, inform us, and remind us that we are here to create and to do so joyfully.

Sure, there have been and are plenty of dysfunctional creative people – Nicola Tesla, despite his brilliance and creativity, battled constantly against poverty and emotional pain. Van Gogh chopped off his own ear and never made a penny from his art. F. Scott Fitzgerald drank himself into an early grave, Hemingway shot himself, and Sylvia Plath put her head in an oven and turned on the gas.

But for every creative misfit, there are countless other individuals who have the creative equivalent of the Midas touch, a magical something that transforms the mundane, the utterly ordinary, into something unique. When we enter their homes or workplaces, that magic is evident everywhere, an ineffable quality that’s hard to pin down. It touches something in that deeper part of ourselves, speaks to us at an intuitive level. We immediately sense they are connected to something larger than themselves, that that have tapped into a creative flow that spills over into every area of their lives.

Creativity is our birthright regardless of our culture, skin color, religious or political beliefs, the stuff that so often divides us. It is endemic to our humanity. It’s the grease in the cogs, the driving force of life, the very thing that makes us what we are. And synchronicity is its voice.
