Volcanic Eruptions and Empaths

The volcanic eruptions in Iceland are having an impact on several of the planetary empaths we have written about in previous posts.

For several days,D page has been exhibiting some of the same symptoms that we wrote about in the linked post.  Connie Cannon, who dreamed about these eruptions several weeks before they happened, wrote this morning to say that her throat is “burning,” and that she feels uneasy about the possibility of an eruption from a second volcano in Iceland. D’s 24-year-old daughter, who is also sensitive, has reported persistent ringing in her ears, one of the symptoms these individuals feel about pending earthquakes.

There’s speculation that Katla, a more powerful volcano  8 miles east of the present eruptions, could blow as well. Katla erupts about twice a century,  the last time in 1918, when it triggered glacial floods. The New York Times has a good article on the situation here.

Volcano synchro

Short after the Icelandic volcano,Eyjafjallajökull, blew open, Jeremy Warner, a writer for the U.K. Telegraph wrote a tongue-in-cheek blog post suggesting that the Icelanders had summoned up a Nordic god in revenge for Britain’s use of strong arm tactics to get Iceland to repay a loan, related to the collapse of its banking system.

Then the Icelandic coast guard photographed the three main vents of the eruption, using special cameras. So Warner followed up his blog post with a new entry and photo. “If this is not the face of some fallen deity summoned up from the underworld, I don’t know what is,” he wrote.

We agree. Pretty spooky! Thanks to Jim Banholzer for alerting us to this emerging entity. Let’s see, it could be Thor, god of lightning and thunder. Or maybe it’s Vali, god of vengeance. But I think there’s more involved than paying back the Brits.

UFOs and Synchronicity, Part 2

Part 2
It started with a Ouija board, led to a late night search for UFOs at Fort Lauderdale International Airport, only to find out the next morning that police officers filed a UFO report after sighting an object hovering above Perry Airport ten miles to the south.

So the next night around midnight Trish and I drove to Perry Airport hoping to catch a glimpse of the UFO.  After all, that was our UFO. But would the entity that seemingly contacted us wait for us? We had our doubts. But it was worth a try.

When we arrived at Perry Airport, we were surprised that it was totally dark. No runway lights, no night lights in the main building. Closed for business. But it made a good spot for a UFO to appear, better than the busy international airport. We sat in the dark waited and watched.

After an hour or so with nothing to show for our wait, we figured that the aliens had their own agenda and we weren’t part of it. Besides, we were already impressed with what had happened. After all, if I hadn’t been called to cover a story at the school board that morning, I might’ve been assigned the UFO story instead of the reporter at the desk next to mine.

So we called it a night and drove off. I’d barely gone a quarter of a mile when I was stopped by a red light at an intersection. I switched stations on my radio and was about to switch again when I heard something unusual. It was an old fashion radio drama, the kind that radio was famed for in the days before television. I couldn’t ever remember hearing such a program on late night radio so I listened to the story.

That’s when things turned truly strange. The story was a detective mystery with a 1930s flavor. But astonishingly the story was about aliens and ufos and an alien had a speaking part. Trish and I had driven in separate cars to the airport, because of the location of the airport. She was right behind me at the light and I wanted to run back there and tell her about the alien on the radio, but the light changed and I didn’t get a chance to tell her about it until the next day.

But it was another synchronicity. That made two of them, one in the morning at the newspaper office, and this one on the radio outside Perry Airport. Nothing quite like that has ever happened to us since then, but at the time both of us were so wide open and searching. We were empty tables, waiting to be filled.

UFOs & Synchronicity, Part I

When Trish and I first met, the most interesting point of connection was that we had been read Seth books and neither of us knew anyone at the time who had read those books. So one night we were discussing the Seth ideas, and one of us mentioned that Jane Roberts, who channeled Seth, had started getting messages through a Ouija board with her husband, Rob. So we went out and bought one, and here’s what happened a couple nights later.

The ‘spirit’ that came through told us he was communicating with us from a UFO. We laughed about that. Being a reporter for a daily newspaper at the time, I was naturally skeptical. But I was also impressed that we were receiving any kind of message. So I asked for proof.

The response was that if we wanted visual evidence, we should drive out to the airport between 1 and 2 a.m. I still had my doubts. From what I’d heard, Ouija boards were known for leading people on wild goose chases that came up empty. Trish felt the same way and said she wanted proof right now before we left the house. She’d no sooner asked the question when the light in the room blinked off and on.

We looked at each other. Okay, that was something. So off we went to the Fort Lauderdale airport to look for UFOs. The airport was smaller in those days and we parked outside a fence just beyond the tarmac…and waited…and waited. We felt kind of stupid when nothing happened, but it was an adventure of sorts. We just weren’t looking forward to getting up early the next morning and going to work.

About quarter after two, we gave up. So much for listening to guidance from an alien communicating through a Ouija board. I dropped off Trish and on my way home, I started wondering the location. Why would a UFO appear near a busy airport? Maybe the trickster-spirit of the board wanted to see if we would confuse an airplane for a UFO. None of it made much sense. But the light did blink when we asked for proof.

The next morning I was in the office by 8 a.m. and immediately assigned a breaking news story with a 10:30 a.m. deadline. I can’t recall what the story was about, but I remember I called it in from the school board administration offices. So it was an education story.

I went back to the office, and wrote a longer version of the story for the second edition. As I wrote it, the reporter at the adjacent desk was typing furiously to meet her deadline. As I finished my story, I asked her what she was working on.

“There was a UFO sighted by cops late last night. It was hovering over Perry Airport.” My jaw must’ve dropped. I muttered something about that being a good story. Little did she know what it meant to me! I remember the reporter, Susan, being a somewhat caustic young woman and a chain smoker. She blew some smoke my way and said: “Yeah, it came from Uranus.” Then she went back to typing her story.

Her story appeared at the bottom of the front page that day. (It was an afternoon newspaper, a thing of the past.) As soon as I got off work, I called Trish and told her what happened. Perry Airport was a private facility, located in Hollywood, Florida, about ten miles from Fort Lauderdale International.

“We went to the wrong airport,” I said. Even though, I was tired after a short night of sleep, we agreed to meet that night at Perry Airport.

Part 2 tomorrow…

Another Doppelganger

Some people seem to have a knack for experiencing  certain kinds of synchronicities – clusters of names or numbers, for instance. Or hearing a tune on the radio or a voice on TV saying something that answers a question or concern. Mike Perry,  whose synchros we’ve posted here before,  seems to experience a lot of synchronicities when he travels and apparently has a talent for experiencing doppelgangers. On March 2, we posted a doppelganger synchro he’d experienced, and now here’s another one.

 +++
I forgot to mention one strange experience while on my holiday to the Canary Islands.  I saw a double of my best friend who died a couple of years back – a doppelgänger, I suppose.

My wife and I were in our hotel about to have our evening meal when in walked the double of my friend – someone I had known for over 30 years.

My wife and I looked at each other and both said, “Doesn’t he look like Colin.”

To be honest it felt very unsettling when this man sat down on his own quite near our table. In a way I wanted to find an excuse to talk to him but then I felt I shouldn’t. I couldn’t, however, stop looking at him.

When the waiter came over to the man it was if I was dreaming. Colin had a habit of putting two fingers of his right hand in his top pocket when he was slightly nervy. This is exactly what this duplicate did as he placed his order for a drink.

After a few days the double went away. I almost felt relieved. Then, as we were at Tenerife airport to fly back to England, there he was waiting for the same flight as us. This particular flight was heading for Bristol where Colin was born – an airport we don’t normally return to when returning home.

Very strange.

I sometimes wonder if doppelgangers are parallel selves.

What’s the Connection Between DMT and Synchronicity?

A number of years ago, I was browsing in Barnes and Noble and came across DMT: The Spirit Molecule, by medical doctor Rick Strassman. If you haven’t read the book, it’s a keeper. DMT is a molecule found in plants, animals, and the human brain. Strassman’s research into this mysterious molecule convinced him that it’s a portal to another dimension. Here’s the trailer for the documentary that is due to be released soon.

Books and Writers

One of the first synchronicities we posted on this blog, on February 4, 2009,  concerned travel, books, and writers. Back then, we were casting around for patterns that manifest themselves through synchronicity, drawing heavily on our own experiences, and we knew this story was a good one. We’re reposting it for several reasons.

In the labels for the 500 plus synchronicities on this blog, travel is one of the largest categories. And we have gotten some terrific stories. Butternut Squash’s Nepal story immediately leaps to mind.  Others that are equally powerful:
Bangkok Odds
Chicago Breakfast Bum

Doppelgangers
A Trucker’s Tale
On the Road with Gypsy

Each of these is quite different in content and texture and runs the gamut from the mundane (like finding a particular restaurant when you’re starving!) to the genuinely esoteric. But each addresses the mysterious nature of  the time/space reality that we inhabit.

When we travel, we’re outside of our normal routines and habits. We tend to be more open, receptive. Events manifest more quickly. The law of attraction is in full force. Synchronicity becomes the universal language of our journey.

from Rob:
In 1988, we traveled to Venezuela, where Trish was born and raised, and visited the Gran Sabana, one of the most fascinating wilderness regions of the planet. I remember carrying a big clunky Radio Shack laptop computer into the jungle, and finding time to work on the re-write of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the novel adapted from the script. Our adventure among the soaring buttes, waterfalls and forest went by too quickly and we soon found ourselves back in Caracas.

At the airport, we headed to customs, where we were surrounded by guards with machine guns. Colombian drug dealers had begun using Caracas to export cocaine and the government was cracking down. The air conditioning wasn’t working right and the air in that area felt tense, tight, it was difficult to breathe. The guards were particularly interested in the man in front of us. He was a tall, middle-aged Venezuelan, who wore a dark, three-piece suit and carried a briefcase. They told him to open it up. Slowly, the man unlatched the briefcase and the guards leaned forward to see what was inside. You could almost hear the collective intake of breath.

We were right behind the man and had a good view. Surprisingly, there was only one item in the briefcase, something I found quite astonishing. It was a paperback copy of one of Trish’s novels, FEVERED. Of course, the man had no idea that the author was standing right behind him…and we didn’t tell him, either. And even if we had told him, why would he believe it? Trish didn’t have any ID that proved she was Alison Drake. It was just a pseudonym she used.

And think about that word, FEVERED.  It perfectly described the atmosphere in the customs area – the guys with machine guns, the lack of fresh air, the tenseness, the poor man with the briefcase…Law of attraction?

It remains one of the strangest travel synchros we’ve experienced.

We’re thinking that our next synchronicity book is On the Road With Synchronicity. We welcome your travel stories!

Subway Angel

Synchronicities that occur in the course of our daily lives usually cause us to sit up and take notice. Some of them are one-time deals. But others, like this one, recur over time, almost as if to complete something. We’ve posted Mike Clelland’s synchronicities before and they’re invariably intriguing and complex.
+++

I was living in New York City at the time. It was a lovely summer morning, probably 1984 or ’85, I was about 22 years old. I got on the subway in lower Manhattan on my way to an office job uptown. This was the E train, and I got on, as usual, at Spring Street.

The next stop was West 4th Street, and when the doors opened a very pretty young woman got on the train.

I don’t understand why – but for some reason – I literally thought she was an angel. I’m not kidding. I was convinced she was somehow delivering me some mystical message. Maybe I died, and she was escorting me to the great beyond. Maybe this was the subway to heaven?

I was thunderstruck, and it was extremely strange.

I can vividly recall EXACTLY what she looked like and what she was wearing. She had short blond hair and she was reading the NY Times. She folded the paper in the proper way that only the savvy new yorker knows. She had on a simple white summer sun dress and wore white cotton “boating” shoes, low top and clean. No socks and unshaven legs. She was smiling as she read the paper. She stood, and never sat down. And she never looked at me.

She got off at 34th street.

Now, at the time I was living with my girlfriend (Catherine) in a little apartment in SoHo downtown. When I got home that evening I told her about this weirdly profound event, alas – she didn’t understand how intense it was. She actually got kind of angry at me – and that was typical of her. She simply saw it as me ogling, and immediately felt defensive.

Anyway – Now the story jumps a few months later, on a busy street in Greenwich Village (just east of Astor Place), I was walking on the sidewalk with Catherine on a cold wintry Saturday morning. We had a rather tense relationship and clearly remember we were having a little squabble, typical of us. Then – she suddenly blurted out, “What are we doing? We shouldn’t be together! I’m not your type, SHE’S your type!” and she pointed to this random woman on the sidewalk…

And it was her!

And – she was wearing the SAME shoes!

Reindeer Woman

This story comes from d page, whose synchronicities we have posted several times before. Her blog,  Mythic Musings, is richly textured with detail and the psychic experiences she writes about always have deep, mythic levels to them. This story, which involves a dream, is no exception.
+++
In December 2004, D and her husband were out running errands. “Suddenly, my left ear had a long, sustained ringing and I had simultaneous visions of destruction and flooding. I knew many would die. This was one of my first encounters with this type of visionary experience. I was disoriented and my husband had to hold me up until it was over. I told him what I was witnessing. I felt horrified. I knew it would happen in 3 days time, but not where it would happen.”

On the night of December 25, she had the following dream: “I am facing a goddess. She is half human, half reindeer. She is a mixture of skin,
fur and hair. She has enormous antlers. She is very powerful. She is flinging my body around, like a lasso, holding it by the hair. My body’s orbit stays the same,  until she shifts it slightly, subtly. Then my body’s orbit changes. I just know, somehow, that she is Reindeer Woman.

“I had no idea who Reindeer Woman was. I did correlate  my body in the dream with the Earth. I mention in my profile that I have a complex of autoimmune diseases. I had, long ago, come to a conclusion: the illness of my body is somehow directly linked to humanity’s damage of our environment and that my condition was a mirror of a larger issue regarding the whole planet. Consequently, in the above mentioned dream, my body was the Earth. But who was this powerful goddess?

“When I got up on the morning of December 26, I saw what had happen during the night. Sumatra had had  an  unprecedented quake, with an ensuing destructive tsunamis.”

“Many days after the horrific event in Sumatra, scientists announced that the earth’s axis had shifted. This quake was the 2nd strongest ever recorded and the Earth continued to oscillate for four months after the initial event. When reading about the Sumatra quake causing a shift of the Earth’s axis, I realized that Reindeer Woman was somehow link the axis. I did some library and internet research, but found nothing regarding a reindeer goddess and the axis of the earth. At the time, the only material I could find on reindeer goddesses was Linda Schierse Leonard’s book Creations Heartbeat: Following the Reindeer Spirit. Leonard feels  the reindeer is an excellent motif representing the re-emergence of the Goddess.

“On February 24th, 2010 my husband and I were in a thrift store. There was a rather  dog-eared, hard covered novel on a shelf. I noticed there was a sketch of a rock with a pictograph of an antlered woman on the cover.(I can’t remember the title!) I handed the book to Larry and said; “The last time I saw reindeer woman, the Earth’s axis shifted.” He knew that I was talking about the Sumatra quake. He asked me if I wanted the book. I said no…. I didn’t feel very well and the store was very busy. I needed to leave. I didn’t dream about “Reindeer Woman” that night, but I did have a difficult experience the following night, as described here.

“On February 25th, Chile had an 8.8 earthquake off the coast of the Maule Region,  with tsunami warnings issued for the Pacific Rim. On March 1st, scientists declared that the quake caused another axis shift. My heart sank when I realized the significance of coming across the image of the reindeer woman yet again. Now, I was determined to find the connection between this image, and the Earth’s axis.”

D’s research led her to art historian Esther Jacobson, whose book The Deer-Goddess of Ancient Siberia: A Study in the Ecology of Belief, documents the transformation of the image of the pre-shamanic, neolithic reindeer goddess as Axis Mundi (world tree), through time and history. The qualities Jacobson linked
 the reindeer goddess to included:
* deer mother as tree of life
* source and end of each clan’s lineage
* beginnings endings regeneration
* her sacred places include heavenly bodies, rivers, mountains

The deeper D dug, the more apparent it became that her dream drew upon ancient symbols, what Jung would call the collective unconscious.”According to the Global Action Network, reindeer were domesticated as early as  7000 years ago, before the horse was domesticated. The reindeer is the only species where the antlers are larger on the female and she is the leader of the pack, making this image of the Great Mother Goddess par excellence. Her image has been traced repeatedly on stones, in caves and among standing stones.

“Originally she was portrayed as the axis of the Earth, with her tradition being rooted in an ancient identification with cosmogenesis. Her images were dynamic, in motion, half human into reindeer with the antlers morphing into birds and griffins reaching toward the sky. She was often portrayed with a mirror, representing the concepts that Earth is a mirror of the heavenly, and the afterlife a mirror of earthly life (in reverse). Her morphing form with antler  branches represent the whole Tree of Life. She has been found tattooed on the mummies of the Pazyryk Valley.”

In fact, the image at the beginning of this post is part of the archaeological finds in the Pazyryk Valley in southwestern Russia. “It’s a Scythian reindeer pole that represents the goddess as Earth’s axis and the World Tree. The finds were dated 6th-3rd century BCE and the mummies at this site were tattooed with images of reindeer.”

” How does a modern person come to be connected with ancient primal deities? Why did a neolithic Reindeer Goddess show up in my dreamscape? More specifically, why did she assert herself into my consciousness twice, before an axis shift? Jungians, pagans, Sufis, Kabbalists all believe in the “return of the goddess”. It seems to me, she never left. I am going to make a more conscious effort to connect with Her.”
 ++
Dream symbolism isn’t always obvious, but D recognized a pattern to her experiences, did the research, and it seems she dipped directly into the collective unconscious to define the symbol.

Air tragedy linked to past

Whenever there’s a tragedy that gains worldwide attention, there’s usually synchronicity related to it. That is certainly the case of the crash of a Polish jet in Russia last Saturday. As you’ve probably heard, Poland lost its president, top military brass, and other elite members of Polish society  in the crash that killed 96.

Here’s the sad synchronicity. The plane crashed in Russia’s Katyn forest where thousands of Polish officers and intellectuals were slain by Soviet forces in World War II in an attempt to eliminate some the country’s leaders. That, in itself, is a startling synchronicity. But now add this to the scenario: The Polish leaders on the flight were on a trip to Russia to honor those who died in Katyn forest 70 years ago.

Former President Lech Walesa, who was wasn’t on the plane, said: “This is so much like Katyn, where our head was cut off.”

Among those killed with President Lech Kaczynski, his wife, his closest aides, lawmakers, army commanders, church figures, were relatives of the victims of the 1940 massacre of Polish officers in Katyn forest. Also, among the dead was Ryszard Kaczorowski, 90, the last leader of the Poland’s exiled resistance government, based in London.

Also killed was, Anna Walentynowicz, 80, an icon of Poland’s Solidarity freedom movement. Workers at the Lenin Shipyard in Gdansk went on strike when Walentynowicz was fired from her job as a crane operator in August 1980 for her opposition activity. That action sparked strikes that spread quickly to other plants across the country, giving rise to Solidarity, the movement that helped bring down Soviet rule in Poland nine years later.

One further bittersweet synchronicity involving this tragedy. Polish sculptor Wojciech Seweryn, who lived in the Chicago area, died in the crash. Seweryn, 70, designed a memorial to the victims of Katyn that stands in a cemetery in Niles, Illinois. He had made the trip to honor his father, who perished at Katyn  in 1940.

A sad story, filled with irony. It’s almost as if the horror of what happened in that forest 70 years ago, was so powerful that it brought down the plane carrying those who were honoring the dead. In spite of the sadness for all of those who died in the plane crash, there’s also a larger picture, an action of the mass consciousness of a people. In a sense, it was a fitting closure for the many older Polish people on board. At some level in their individual consciousness, they had all agreed to be on this airplane and depart in this manner.
