Wily Coyote

Jim Banzholder brought this story to our attention. It’s about a coyote that survived impossible odds. And since animals as oracles fall under the definition of synchronicity, we’re including it here.

One of the esoteric meanings about coyote is that he represents the trickster. So it’s definitely synchronistic that Jim’s email arrived just as we were rewriting our chapter on the trickster.

On October 12, Daniel and Tevyn East were driving at night along Interstate 80 near the Nevada-Utah border when they noticed a pack of coyotes near the roadside. They were moving at about 75 miles an hour when  one of the animals ran in front of the car. The impact sounded fatal so the siblings thought there no point in stopping. 

“Right off the bat, we knew it was bad,” Daniel explained. ‘We thought the story was over.” After the incident around 1am, they continued their 600 mile drive to North San Juan – even stopping for fuel at least twice. But it was only when they finally reached their destination at 9am did they take time to examine what damage they may have sustained. 

Eight hours, two fuel stops, and 600 miles later they found the wild animal embedded in their front fender – and very much alive.

“At first it looked as though it was going to be quite gruesome. “Daniel saw fur and the body inside the grill,” Tevyn East said. “I was trying to keep some distance. Our assumption was it was part of the coyote – it didn’t register it was the whole animal.”

Daniel East got a broom to try and pry the remains out of the bumper and got the shock of his life. “It flinched,” Tevyn said. ‘It was a huge surprise – he got a little freaked out.” 

 Rescuers took apart the front fender to save the coyote.

The trickster wins again!

The deeper message for the brother and sister  – and for us, since we share the planet with these creatures – may be that our answers lie in our spiritual beliefs and practices.

The Emerald Tablet

The Emerald Tablet was said to be a mysterious stone or green crystal (moldavite?) on which a coded spiritual formula was written in bas relief. Supposedly, Alexander the Great came into possession of the Emerald Tablet in Egypt in 331 B.C. It was already ancient at that time, going back three millennium. By 400 A.D. it was reportedly buried , possibly on the Giza Plateau, to protect it from religious zealots who were burning libraries and from patriarchs who condemned the Tablet’s universal formula for personal transformation and collective evolution. But the wisdom of the Tablet became the basis for Hermetic sciences and philosophy—alchemy, astrology, and theurgy.

In The Emerald Tablet: Alchemy for Personal Transformation, Dennis William Hauck writes: “The Hermetic tradition emphasized the existence of a supreme force called the One Thing, which has no perceptible form until it is ‘grounded’ or expressed in material reality…The Hermeticists saw the One Thing as a primordial, plastic energy that takes the form of the idea or thought projected by the One Mind.” They believed that calming the mind and focusing our intention through meditation, prayer, and invocation allows us to consciously communicate with and influence this force. The Hermeticists’ ultimate goal was to achieve divine consciousness.
The Emerald Tablet was the precursor to the Corpus Hermeticum, which was based on a number of ancient manuscripts. The Corpus was the Harry Potter book of its day, widely circulated in the second and third centuries and influenced the civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, Persia, and eventually Europe. Hermetic principles and passages were also quietly integrated into many major religions and belief systems, including Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Paganism, and Christianity. Portions of the Gospel of John resemble some of the Hermetic writings. Ie. “In the beginning was Thoth, and Thoth was in Atum, and Thoth was Atum in the unfathomable reaches of primordial space.”
The Corpus also recognizes karma and reincarnation: “O son, how many bodies we have to pass through, how many bands of demons, through how many series of repetitions and cycles of the stars, before we hasten to the One alone?”

There are seven principles to Hermetic philosophy, which is derived from the Emerald Tablet and other sources. Here’s the first one:

Mentalism. Everything that exists in the reality that underlies all manifestation, known as the universe of matter and energy, is spirit in the form of an infinite living mind. The All is Mind; in other words, the totality of the universe is consciousness.

Books, such as Science and the Akashic Field, by Ervin Laszlo, are documenting a wide range of scientific studies that suggest the notion that the universe is underpinned by a subtle fundamental field that connects all things with all other things. Laszlo writes: “At the roots of reality there is an interconnecting, information-conserving, and information-conveying cosmic field.”

And therein lies synchronicity.

Domed City

In the late 1980s, our friend Renie Wiley offered to progress us hypnotically into the future. Renie was an artist, not a professional hypnotist, but had practiced hypnosis on family and friends. She also had a soothing voice and an infallible relaxation technique.

We were sitting at the kitchen table in Tony Grosso’s trailer. Tony was also a psychic, a friend of Renie’s, and Rob’s co-author for The Rainbow Oracle, a book on color divination.

As Renie spoke, Trish suddenly saw herself as a tall woman, completely bald, living in a domed city, and began to describe what she was seeing. 

“Why are the people living in domes?” Renie asked.
“It’s safer in the dome,” Trish replied. “Outside, the air is bad, it’s a wilderness.”
“Do all people live in domes?”
“Only the lucky ones. We aren’t many. There are a few other domes.”
“How old are you?”
“Late twenties.”
“Why’re you bald?”
“Genetic. We’re all bald.”
“What year is it?” Renie asked.
“I don’t know.”

It went on like this for several minutes, with Renie asking questions, Trish answering, and Rob coming out of the place he had been to ask other questions. Then that was it.Trish was deeply unsettled by this progression. It felt real, she could sense the  texture and reality of this young woman’s life.

Not long afterward, we ran across Mass Dreams of the Future by Helen Wambaugh and Chet Snow. Dr. Wambaugh , a past-life regressionist for nearly thirty years, discovered at some point that she could progress people into their future lives.She began a painstaking project in France and the U.S. where she progressed 2, 500 people.  She passed away before the project was completed, but Chet Snow finished the work and published the findings. 

Most of the individuals who were progressed agreed that the population of the earth was vastly diminished. The futures they experienced fell into four distinct categories; a future that was sterile and joyless, where most people lived in space stations and ate synthetic food; a future in which people lived in harmony with nature and with each other; a post-nuclear future of survivalists; and a future in which people lived in underground cities enclosed by domes. We were stunned by the parallels.

Snow explained the four different scenarios as probabilities only, potential futures that we’re creating through our collective consciousness. He subsequently released a map of what the U.S. would look like after the “earth changes” that he believed would occur between 1998 and 2012.

Yet, he recommends that people visualize a more positive future. As he wrote in Mass Dreams, “If we are continually shaping our future physical reality by today’s collective thoughts and actions, then the time to wake up to the alternative we have created is now. The choices between the kind of Earth represented by each of the types are clear. Which do we want for our grandchildren? Which do we perhaps want to return to ourselves someday?”

We certainly don’t want this scenario – or any of the scenes that Wambaugh’s clients saw. Let’s strive for something much better than any of this.

In the Forest

Here’s a story from Ove-Kenneth Nilsen, of Norway.

I was walking from my school where I studied to be a film editor. The school in Norway with the editing studio is located in the forest, and to get there I had to take a bus. I had been working on my first short film one night and was walking to catch the last bus home. The road leading from the school to the main road had street lights, but the forest was pitch black and it was the middle of winter.

Suddenly I heard a loud cracking sound coming from the woods just as I passed. My heart stopped as something came crashing towards me. A large tree fell down in my path. I eventually got on my bus, and opened the novel I was reading.

The first thing I read was, “If a tree falls down in the woods and no one is around to hear it – does it make a sound?” Well:This tree made a lot of sound… and this is just one of many synchronistic events in my life.

Shroud of Turin/Shroud of Heaven

Author Sean Ellis has a new novel out called Shroud of Heaven, and now he notes that a Vatican scientist has released a new study about the Shroud of Turin.

Sean is hoping for a little spin-off publicity for his book, but points out that his Shroud has nothing to do with the famous one. Hm, it’s not much of a synchroncity, either, Sean! But here’s a little publicity. -Rob

Bangkok Odds

We’ve posted several synchronicities that involve phenomenal odds, like the Anthony Hopkins story. This one, from healing mudras, a European expatriate living in of Bangkok, is impressive. It seems to underscore the law of attraction and how closely we are all connected. Healing mudras has written an ebook called Quantum Togetherness.

Bangkok is a city of more than 10 million inhabitants.
Two days ago I bought an USB aircard with a Sim card from the same mobile service provider I use for my mobile phone.The USB Sim card enables access to WiFi anywhere with a laptop or notebook.
Today I sat down at a local Starbucks outlet with my notebook and proudly took the USB modem out of my bag. A young Thai man walked in and searched for an electricity to sit down and do exactly the same I was doing. I waved at him and told him he could share my table because there were no more plugs available.
He smiled, sat down, opened his notebook and looked at my USB aircard. He said, “Oh, you are using that device also.. Do you like it?”  I told him I did. And he continued, “I am the one who designed it. I work for the company producing these USBs. I designed that and we are now designing a WiFi version of it.” We had a nice conversation  and I offered ideas on how to make his product better. Only 10,000 of these USB aircards were produced and sold, healing says. “There are loads of service providers in Thailand and only one has these USBs.”

So, with ten million residents in the city, what are the odds on this one? One to ten million?

The Grizzly

We’ve posted several synchronicities involving animals as oracles. This one, from Sue Thurman, a writer from Arizona, involves a grizzly bear, in a dream.

There often appears to be a deeper meaning to some of my experiences, but many are initially perplexing.  My lucid dream about grizzly bears was confusing.  In the dream the bears were large and threatening.  My husband was driving a jeep and I was the passenger.  We were on a rugged dirt road in the mountains where a stream had flooded the area, then receded dramatically.  Large fish were stranded next to the muddy road providing a meal for the bears.  It was frightening to be so close to the animals as they growled at us.  We were close enough to touch them.

Next morning, thoughts of the dream lingered.  Animals are a passion of mine, but it was my first dream about bears and it was bugging me.  When I turned my car onto the highway headed for work, the dream took on new meaning.  At the first stoplight it was impossible to avoid noticing the license plate in front of me at eye level.  It was like being slammed in the face.  The plate read, “BEAR GRR.”

This was not the first time or the last when a license plate demanded my attention with a message, or provided an answer to a question on my mind.  It gives me shivers when it happens.  The license plate warned of something, but what?  Later one afternoon I heard voices and a scuffle outside my office window followed by a dull thud.  While police surrounded the building, an ambulance arrived to retrieve a body covered with a blanket.  The man had been shot to death a few feet from me.  Was this the warning from the bear dream reinforced through a license plate?  It would be hard to convince me otherwise.

Time Catcher

Recently, I drove to Boca Raton, about 40 minutes away, with a friend to a yoga class that I take about twice a month. En route, I talked about my novel, Time Catcher, that has been circulating among publishers for months. I mentioned that I was worried because it deals with 2012 so it needs to sell soon…or it might not sell at all, unless it undergoes  a major rewrite.

During the class, I also started thinking that I was reaching the end of my time going to this studio. I’ve taken classes with this particular teacher for about 11 years. It’s very challenging yoga and I’m about 25 years older than the average student. It’s not that I can’t handle the class anymore, but there’s now a studio much closer to home, which also has good teachers.

So near the end of the class, we did handstands and the instructor asked us to hold it for ten breaths before coming down. I could only stay up for a couple of breaths in the middle of the room, so after a couple of tries I went to the wall. Up I went, my toes lightly touching the wall, or so I thought. After a breath or two,  I felt something coming down between my  legs. I quickly closed my thighs, catching it, lodging it against my groin. It was about the size of a plate, but I had no idea what it was.

I kept holding it and breathing. Finally, after nine or ten breaths, the instructor’s assistant snatched it away, and I came down. That’s when I discovered that I’d been holding the wall clock! I must have knocked it loose when my feet hit the wall, and moments later, it fell.

I continued on with the class, but a short time later I realized I’d created a double synchronicity from a handstand. Time Catcher! Get it? The book and the studio. Tick…tick…tick.

Cedar Key Synchros

Cedar Key is a very small island 50 miles southwest of Gainesville, Florida, on Florida’s Gulf coast. We’ve been visiting for years and usually stay at the same place, the Old Fenimore Inn. This photo is the view at dusk, from our third floor balcony.

This is our first time back in two years and the economy has taken its toll – some of the shops and restaurants have folded, there are fewer tourists, the town  is nearly deserted during the week. Our favorite coffee shop is now a lawyer’s office.

During a walk this past weekend, we talked about moving here, as we have done before. We usually look at property here, and this trip was no exception. But we never quite make the leap. So on this walk, we suddenly hear the loud barking of a dog that sounded as familiar as an old friend’s voice. “Hey, that sounds like Bart. Remember that dog?” Rob exclaimed.

The dog’s hoarse, distinctive bark echoed through the early morning quiet. Sure enough, moments later, there’s Bart, bounding toward us, his muzzle a bit grayer. And right behind him is his owner, Warren, who laid laminate flooring in our house some years ago. Warren and Bart had moved to Cedar Key after Warren had sold his business a few years ago, and every time we come here, we inevitably run into Warren walking Bart. They live in a house on stilts just a couple hundred yards from the condo where we were staying.
 After chatting with Warren, we continued on into town and discover a  new coffee shop – Kono’s – and went inside for a couple of cappuccinos. Small place, on the water, the air filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and cinnamon rolls. We strike up a conversation with the couple who own the shop and discovere they opened eight months ago.

“Where are you from?” we asked.

“The West Palm Beach area,” the man replies.

Okay. Why not Tampa? Or Tallahassee?  Because it’s apparently going to be a synchro day.  “That’s where we’re from. We live in Wellington.”

The man’s eyes widen. “That’s where we lived!”
It turns out they lived less than two miles from us.

Small world. And maybe a hint that Cedar Key might be in our future, as a place of residence – at least part-time.

Google and Synchronicities

We’ve mentioned before how we set up a Google alert for synchronicity shortly after we started our blog.  We check the URLs and links that Google delivers daily and sometimes, there are some wonderful surprises that add credence to my belief that the Internet, Google, and blogging are fertile environments for synchronicity.

This evening, I clicked on one that came in and found myself staring at a photo entitled “Synchronicity,” taken by Peter Prato,  of a cute girl in a reflective mood, taken .

Then I did a double take of the name and the site –
and thought, Wait a minute. I knew a Peter Prato who used to work at my agent’s agency. How many Peter Pratos can there be in the universe? And I knew I had done his birth chart, too. Just to be sure, I went into my database and sure enough, found his chart. I sent Peter an email asking if he was the Peter born on such and such a date.

And it was. He wrote:

 “Trish! Given the title of the photo and the nature of our connection and what you do, it’s impossible to ignore the machinery of the universe.”

The girl in the picture is Peter’s sister. I asked Peter why he called the photo synchronicity.”Because that was the first time my sister and I ever worked together- her as an actor and me as a photographer.  We shot in a studio that belongs to one of my closest friends whom I met in college and now lives in San Francisco.  So the picture represents more synchronicity than I could explain.  It’s a lifetime of overlap that led to it.”
